Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2026

Our depth is pretty dire isn't it. We desperately need some decent young forwards and backs.
We've had some seriously lean years when it comes to debutants from the Broncos... and I had a hunch that it was from 2020 onwards when Covid really ****ed around with the young guys coming through at that time... so we potentially lost a whole 'generation' of youngsters coming through.

Looking at transfers on Rugby League Project and it looks like we had 5 debutants in each of 2020 and 2021, and then it went 3, 2, 2 and 1 for the 4 years following... with the 1 in 2025 being Talty

We've had 4 this year (Semu, Buk, Nio and Coates), so I'm wondering if the tide is turning 🤔🤔

The debutants between 2022 and 2025 are below, and it's basically only 4 guys that came through the broncos pathways, which is horrendous for a "development club"

2022
Zac HOSKING (NSW Cup??)
Ezra MAM
Deine MARINER

2023
Blake MOZER
Josh ROGERS (Qcup vet)

2024
Josiah KARAPANI (Souths)
Benjamin TE KURA

2025
Ben TALTY (NSW Cup)

If the Warriors have set up a permanent base in Logan should we not do the same in Auckland or Wellington/Christchurch?

Broncos spend more time recruiting from New Zealand than Brisbane.

Antonio, Tawha, Mariner, Hoeter, Perham, Karapani, Riki, Semu, Willison and Athars.

The Broncos are doing well out of there.

Are you joking me!!? I just checked their young forward contracts - what greedy bastards they are. All locked in long term. How can they afford to stack like that?

Bishop Neal - 2028
Leka Halasima - 2029
Jacob Laban - 2029
Demitric Vaimauga - 2028
Eddie Ieremia-Toeava - 2028
Morgan Gannon - 2028
Erin Clarke - 2029
Tanner Stowers Smith - 2028
Jason Salalio - 2028
Kayliss Fatialofa - 2027

All home grown pathways players, just bought the one pom in Gannon.

If we can't grab Bishop Neal then Kayliss Fatialofa looks getable. Ivan and the Panthers wanted him for this year but the Warriors convinced him to back out in the cooling period. They still haven't given him any NRL time. Absolute Gun player blocked by Leka Halasima, Laban and Gannon... and plus they will need to fit Neal in there too soon, so his prospects still look grim at the Warriors. I think he could be every bit as good as Halasima and should be playing NRL every week. Modern explosive 2nd rower and can cover Staggs when he plays Origin or is injured. Would destroy teams in our pack. Probably would be the fastest forward in the NRL when he plays.

Id also be enquiring immediately about Rodney Tuipolotu-Vea 'The RTV' - He is a tank, must only be on a development deal there.

Warriors were keen on Verhoeven. Would we be willing to trade him for a couple of gun young forwards? They will lose some of these guys into the future so why not trade up with them now.

You could write a list like this at any time in the Warriors history since 1995.

Every team has still recruited New Zealanders better than the Warriors.

Antonio, Tawha, Mariner, Hoeter, Perham, Karapani, Riki, Semu, Willison and Athars.

The Broncos are doing well out of there.

How many of those have come through the academy?

Verhoeven, Mariner, Riki, Semu, Willison etc.

Igasan, Cook, Harris-Tavita are others who were scouted in NZ.

Then there's cases like Bryenton (who is no longer with the Broncos but was and is currently in limbo) who is a Kiwi but was recruited off the Coast.

Tawha via the Dolphins
Hoeter via the Seagulls
Perham via the Bulldogs
Karapani via Souths
Arthars via Gold Coast

I said the same last year - we've got to be smart here and do this. I know we poached a few from there but I just wish we'd be a little more ruthless

Do a comparison of Brisbane VS NZ, but you’re only allowed to use the players we recruited directly out of NZ and not the ones from… New Zealand’s West Island, Redcliffe and the Gold Coast

It would be a massive waste of money; Broncos are already getting what they want just by going there and picking their best or going to the Gold Coast.

Broncos moved Antonio here at the end of 24, goes to PBC for a year and is playing NRL now, Calvin Harris-Tavita just won Cyril his first year here and is going to Wavell and his brother plays for the Warriors, and it didn't stop the Broncos.

I understand that there is schools and steps in between but I don't think anyone could fault the Broncos recruitment of New Zealanders.

Manu vatuvai is the greatest kiwi to play the game and he never signed with us.

I still remember Halligan pronouncing his name. Var - too - vey. Imagine if he played when Cronk was commentating.
Gould hated him because he would clap and hi-5 his teammates when he dropped the ball. It confused the **** out of poor old Gus.

I think Ruben Wiki`s mum might dispute that .
I always remember a story about Jordan Rapana. His family could only afford one pair of footy boots but 5 of the kids played. They ended up filling the toes with scrunched up newspaper so the kids with smaller feet could fit into them.
