Broncos Sign Gavet

Ok.... Where did you hear this exactly?? Or are you just making shit up. .

No sir, I don't make things up...

Boyd tells teammates he wants to stay | NRL | Zero Tackle

Boyd riddle

Darius Boyd has taken major steps on his road to recovering from depression and other issues. Aside from checking into rehab he has re-united with his mother after 10 years without seeing her. Boyd was also a surprise show at the Knights' awards night. He was welcomed with some warmth by the senior players at the club. What is odd is that he is telling teammates that his heart is in Newcastle and he wants to stay at the club.

If he's not playing for the Broncos he isn't just sitting out and not playing any footy for the week.

Yes, I understand that when he isn't playing NRL he then goes and plays for Redcliffe, however playing in the QLD Cup is hardly adequate enough for NRL match fitness. I don't think many QLD cup players could handle the high intensity of NRL straight away and be expected to play big minutes. Hala seems to only manage 5 minutes of quality in the NRL. You can figure out why...

Gavet could be a solid signing for the club, he has loads of aggression and carries the ball hard through the middle. He is also a big awkward thing and if he can work on an off load he could be really dangerous for opposition defenders. His defense is somewhat suspect laterally though and gets beaten a bit to easy with nippy footwork around the ruck. The big concern for me is his injury prone body, he has played very limited footy since his days in the 20's due to various injuries. I'm also hoping he can stay away from the demon drink too.

Didn't know that about his injury history.

My optimism level just went down a notch.

Hala has never been expected to play big minutes in the NRL ... we needed him to be an impact forward off the bench 15-20 minutes per match would have been fine.

He should be playing big minutes in the ISC to allow his match fitness to get to a level where he could handle one (but preferably two) stints of 15-20 minutes

Yeah but the bloke barely lasts 10 minutes in the NRL, whereas in ISC he can play for quite a bit longer. No one expects him to play 60 minutes a game, its just that he should be at least be able to play 15-20 minutes of high energy/intensity full of big runs. Instead he only manages one big run then appears to be tired for the rest of the time he's on the field.

Its hard to be an impact weapon when you get put on when we don't even have the ball in our hand. Countless times I've seen him come on and his regulation 7 minutes would be used up defending. That's not how you use an impact prop, hopefully Bennett can use him properly.

He should be put on when were on the front foot, and putting the opposition under the pressure. His job should be to keep the roll on. A couple of big runs through the ruck to create the space for the backs to score the points.

Because he's lazy and/or unfit? He makes one run then disappears. He still trains with Corvo and does everything the other guys do at training.

thats the plan i suspect.....it wont come to fruition fully for another year or two, but lets hope we all see noticable improvements from both of these guys; i will be happy then to wait for 1-2 seasons before they lead us back to the top..!!!

At the Dogs he had a bad ankle injury- (three stress fractures and needed surgery)
At the Tigers he had a bad foot injury in 2013 and this season had some hamstring problems that kept him out.

But I quietly wonder how much his injury problems were exasperated by his problems off the field.
