Look at his peers coming up through the Broncos and the money we are paying them in comparison. We got greedy and tried to keep to many of the young forwards we had coming through.

Carrigan and Haas will be and are already imo better than Collins and they didn't even come through the Broncos with him. Joffa would be the only one still here. And he is overpaid.

As mentioned above, the issue is with how much Lodge is being paid. Even with an upgrade, Collins is likely to be on around 60% of what Lodge is on. Is Collins 60% of the player Lodge is?

More to that point, is Collins worth what Joffa is on? Absolutely! So it doesn't even have to be one or the other. If Lodge was on Joffa's money even, I wouldn't have a huge issue with it.

As you mentioned, Carrigan and Haas are already at or above Lodge's level anyway. A forward rotation of Haas, Carrigan, Collins and Flegler would be FAR better value than the current overpriced rotation we have in Lodge, Haas, Joffa and Flegler.

I think people are quick to forget how good Lodge was when he didn't have a broken leg that he was forced to play on.
tbh it's hard to think of any of the times our players played well after the last 12 months.

I agree with that.

I never wanted to sign Lodge - No matter how good he was or wasn't going to be

People are in denial if they don't think Lindsay Collins at the Broncos would be better than Lodge or Ofahengaue.

Anyway... It doesn't have to be Lindsay Collins.. We could just sign the next player that is bound to be playing origin for QLD soon.

Darryn Schonig looks good.. Why not plan to sign him?

People know Lodge's ceiling and the effect of injuries this year. It's the money that is the problem. He is on Elite prop money and some of us don't think he is an elite prop. At his best he is up there but not elite on 750K a year .

I see this in the workplace all the time. People get top dollar for their job but in hard times (like now with Covid) senior leaders will look at value for money and if you are at the ceiling it brings with it a target. Senior leaders also forget to look at their own value which we also understand too well

If Collins sat around or just below the $400k mark I'd be interested and that's what I said yesterday but after getting an Origin debut and looking pretty comfortable out there I think upon reflection that under $400k is probably going to be an unrealistic price and something close to $500k or more might be needed to pry him away from the Roosters, so I think that prices him out of what I'd be interested in for our purposes.

I think we could release Lodge and Ofahengaue and sign Collins and Schonig with a lot of money to spare. I want Eddie Blacker back at the club too!

Courier Mail saying we made a 3rd party enquiry about the availability of drinkwater to fix our fullback problem but cowboys want to keep him

Also mentioned our cap situation won’t ease jsut with getting rid of bird and the club hoped Macca wouldn’t be returning to take up his $600k contract

I dont think you would pick up Collins for 60% of what lodge is on now he is a Queensland player. I think he would be looking at around that $500-600k a year mark. I'm not even convinced tbh Lodge is on this $700k plus he is rumored to be on.

Not having a go at anyone in particular here either, but i think with Lodge's injuries and our poor form people have forgotten a little just how good he is. He has done himself no favours playing injured and football fans do have short memories.

I'm not quite sure either how people think we can just release Joffa and Lodge and just swoop onto another club and get who we want. First issue is we cant just release players because we want somebody better. Without a good reason, we still carry them on the cap. Secondly, we then have to get clubs to release players, and thats not always easy.

I think if we pushed the issue, we could get him. Holmes is their fullback going forward and they have the Hammer waiting in the wings as well. They have Morgan and still have Clifford at the moment plus they are chasing Benji. They also have Asi who looked promising. Their cap is worse than ours, they literally have very little room to move so i think he is actually a realistic option.

Imo the issue is not so much of a lodge vs Collins thing, but that the roosters are great at finding those low cost forwards that pack punch and cost f all.

And when they do make a name for themselves and sign for more dosh elsewhere, they just replace them with the next.

this was the Broncos 10-15 years ago...sigh...

Getting rid of Lodge would be stupid.

It's very difficult to play well on one leg. When he's healthy, he's a bloody good prop who takes a lot of pressure off Haas which results in Haas putting in barnstorming performances like he was in 2019.

When you play well, your value goes up. That's the way it works.

Pissing him off to sign some fringe forward is just crazy.

I'm in the minority here but I just don't rate drinkwater that highly. He seems like a Moylan, he's kinda ok in a few different spots but not he's not particularly outstanding in any of them, often being shifted to accommodate better players.

keep the cash.

geez, I don't even want to get rid of him based on form though?

I think it's quite silly that I keep reading comments about him being half injured and to forgive him for that. I don't care, no thanks.
