Broncos Vs. Knights - Match Thread

and you call yourself a Broncos fan. I find it extremely difficult to beleive that any TRUE fan of a club would hope that they get flogged. people need to SUPPORT their team in the tough times of which as a Broncos fan there haven't been many. I haven't even seen Souths or Sharks supporters say anything a stupid as that, and they have been at the bottom of the ladder from much much longer than us. I watch every second of every game, even if we are behind by 50; I go to every home game I can and never leave before the final siren, I go to the games even if i expect us to be badly beaten and stay even if we are getting badly beaten. that's what it means to be a fan, riding the highs and lows with your team.

next week we have to face a team that is over $850k over the cap (the NRL have confirmed that they have found more illegal payments) and $1.15 million more expensive than ours.

He should have been given the job from word go. Terry Matterson FTW! He will restore the club to what it once was.

if we are to hire any coach from the ESL they need to be winning the dam thing not one down the bottom. and Castleford are the second worst defensive team in the ESL as well.

Agree with everyone else in saying Te'o and Thaiday were clearly our best. I was disappointed with the amount of ball dropped by Parker and his incessant desire to come back infield whenever he got possession.

Ning I think Michaels was the cause of that tonight, every time we shifted the ball left and looked like creating something Michaels was a metre in front of him.
One day our outside backs will learn to stay deep and really put an up and in D into 2 minds.

The whole team is playing this flat style in attack which has NOT WORKED ALL SEASON but they are persisting with. Forwards are getting the ball as they are being tackled, the backs aren't getting early pill. Lockyer runs to the line, looks outside and sees that every man is about to be crushed, and hesitates. When it comes to kick downfield, every kick is rushed.

Contrast that with the Bulldogs first set last night. On plays 3 and 4 they were throwing passes nearly 10 meters backwards and bringing people onto the ball, making the defense work hard to number up. We just don't ask those sorts of questions and it makes Locky look like a chump. It's clearly a coaching issue and they need to think again.

I think our season can be summed up by one play last night.

In the first half we had the ball I think opposition 20 or 30m. Lockyer ended up running 3/4s of the field sideways looking for someone to hit a hole back on the inside or even just to be behind to take a pass. Everyone watched him run behind them and hoped for a miracle pass. I agree it's a coaching issue, how the **** are we meant to score when everyone overruns the playmaker?

I agree about Dodds, Big Pete. I bagged the crap out of him at the start of the season but now he is in my team every week and I think he will be a cornerstone of our pack for years to come!!. It seems that we have plenty of decent performance by some of our players but never play well as a team.

I reckon, still think he offers not much in attack but his defence is great. T'eo is awesome, shift him back to the centres because Michaels is a joke that guy should never see the light of day in first grade ever again. We need more experience. I like Lui but I think dropping him to q cup rather than 20's would be good for him. We need to look into someone like Natusch coming into the side, or even James Stosic, he is playing well for easts and he has alot of first grade experience. I think we need an actual hooker on the bench to come on after Glenn because he's a great player but does not have much creativity from dummy half. Our defence needs an overhaul! The line was staggered all the time, everyone was flat footed and they were making easy metres because of it. I always held out hope that we would somehow crawl into the 8 and keep the succession of finals appearances from 1991 going, but now I know that our team this yr is useless. We can say whatever we like about having a young side, but the truth is probably half of the team isn't up to first grade. Lucky Storm has already got the wooden spoon because that would be where we are heading. Sack Henjak and get a decent coach in, he was an average first grader at canberra and he is a shithouse coach!!

Im past angry after the games now, Just come to expect that the Broncos play like shit ever week. I tell you what, im really looking foward to the Broncos getting the flogging of their lives down in Melbourne next week.

Did we have 1 tackle in opposition 20 the second half?

I'm becoming the same now. Too upsetting getting your hopes up ATM. At least back in the past our crap defence was balanced out by wicked attack. I couldn't see any set plays or structure last night. You'd think Hunt and Lockyer would have spent at least a little time together working out plays. All our tries were through arse or physicality against soft defense.

If it is what it takes to get Ivan sacked than it's worth it. He's the most clueless coach I've seen on, worse than Fitler's stint in coaching.
Consistently selecting 1 or 2 backs on the bench, picking one front rower on the bench when we are really lacking in that department using interchanges at the wrong time and in the wrong way, chopping and changing the team every week when not needed, making 20 positional changes throughout the game, still hasn't recruited a fitness coach, still hasn't recruited a defensive coach, players do not respect him, we play like we have no game plan, no player has improved under him, actually quite the opposite.

In saying that I put just as much blame on Bruno.

i think that sums up our season but not for the reason you did.

to me, that play showed that Lockyer just isnt up to NRL level anymore. your main playmaker shouldnt be running around like a chicken with his head cut off, side to side across the field just to not get tackled. noone on his own team knows what hes trying to do because he has no idea. he shouldve taken the tackle in the middle of the field when he had to turn back around the first time (which he had to do because he was indecisive and didnt throw a pass either to the guy steaming through or behind him, causing the first guy to hit the defence and lockyer couldnt go behind him or itd be a shepherd).

Lockyer is done. past it. consigned forever to the list of legends that played for one year too long. this is the one thing i feared happening to Lockyer, and it has come true.

the only good thing to come out of that match was Ben Teo. hes been awesome the last few weeks, but he just stepped up another notch last night. if we havent got him locked down for another 2-3 years, if i was bruno id be writing a new one up this morning and driving over to his house myself to get him to sign it. he was belting guys in defence as well as making his now signature low tackles, and running hard with ball in hand. and the way he celebrated when scoring those tries, you know he just wants to play footy and wants to do it at the broncos.

Hunt, thanks for waiting around for an opportunity to play with us, but i think its time to move on. we NEED Cooper Cronk, and we need him badly.

oh yeah, Michaels.......lol. who were the people saying hes gonna play well and to give him a chance? last night showed hes still rubbish and will always be rubbish. the first time newcastle swung the ball out wide to his side, he was nowhere to be found, having rushed in for no reason leaving his winger all alone, and they went straight through for gidley to score. absolute tard he is.

he assisted by throwing a simple pass. Hunt did all the work in his try, and any number of players wouldve thrown that ball to Teo had they got it instead of Lockyer.

Lockyer is, IMHO, done. he just doesnt have it in him anymore, and its showing.

Lockyer's kicking game was pathetic though! He did look a bit lost last night. I think we can blame all this on our injury list it seems everything else is blamed on that.

I think Lockyer's kicking game has been terrible for a while.

It is a shame it used to be amazing, it seems he can't kick that far anymore either. I remember his awesome grubbers for Berrigan too.

I keep telling you, it's because we are too flat. Lockyer has virtually no options because either player A is microseconds away from being tackled, or is already in front of him. If we had proper depth, like we used to, or people running decent lines off his hip, providing options, he would look like the champion he is.

If you think removing Lockyer from this side will improve it, you're wrong.

The funny thing is he is only 32 or 33 years old, but i have to agree he should retire at the end of the year.

Lets face it we are not making the 8 this year, gie Lockyer his swangsong season and then with Hunt, Falou & Lockyer freeing massive amounts of money.

Not sure who would be available but i reckon with NRL backing lets get Gary AlbertJnr (Fullback that would be awesome under the high ball and will be kicking 40/20's all day) & Matt Giteau at 5/8.

Just a simple message to the AFL & ARU F*** with us and we F*** with you, cause all thats happening now is the NRL is being bullied by these codes.

As i said Gallop needs to go, his too much of a soft co**.

even if you were serious, why would those players take MASSIVE pay cuts to come to league?

because playing under Ivan Henjak would be the best moment in the lives of these superstars!! icon_thumbs_u

I don't agree with everything you said, especially about Locky. His team is not helping him and I think it's getting to him and causing him to go off his game. You can tell that's he's not himself. He looks defeated and tired, for sure, but not because he's past his time, but because his team is driving him into the grave :) Hunt needs more time to develop, i've seen some magic there. Send him to QCup and bring him back next year or the year after. 100% agree with Te'o and his passion for rugby leage and the Broncos. We need that desperately.
