So remember how Greg Inglis being appointed captain was strange and out of the blue?

Well now we know why...

Over in Arizona big ol' Johnny Sutton and Luke '4th rate' Burgess got up to some mischief that somehow escaped the scrutiny of the NRL.

Until journalists started doing some digging.

The case has since been re-opened for investigation by the NRL's Integrity Unit and everyone is blowing up about it.

What do you guys reckon? Storm in a teacup? Should the clubs consider self-preservation? Or should the code be as transparent as possible?

RABBITOHS’ BOUNCER VICTIM RECEIVED ‘SATISFACTION’ TO DROP CHARGES | Rugby League Week

I don't think it is a storm in a tea cup. From what we can tell so far they were being complete knobs and one of them pushed someone to the ground. I know a lot of fans will say "no big deal, peeple have done far worse". But if they code wants to move forward it needs to lose the she'll be right mate attitude and stamp this rubbish out.

I think it highlights also that letting the clubs do their own investigation is just pointless because nine times out of ten they come up with a nothnig to see here response when there clearly is

The fact that they took the captaincy off the guy that "led" them to their 1st premiership in 40 odd years tells me that there was a lot in it. That was always going to come under scrutiny, so the fact that they still did it says the matter was serious IMO.

I did hear that one of the bouncers ended up with a cut. But charges were dropped in the end, maybe there was a payoff?

That's the insinuation and the main reason for the re-opening of the case I believe.

Funnily enough, John Sutton will skipper the side for their trial this week. I'd assume it's because Inglis isn't playing.

From what I've read/seen on the News..

Sutton & Burgess were at a club, they were both hammered, Sutton spat on the bar, they were asked to leave by the bouncer multiple times, Burgess pushed the bouncer over, bouncer hit his head on something, noticeable bruise on the forehead.

Both were arrested, but the charges were dropped due to a "Settlement" provided by Burgess (i.e a cash payment for the bouncer to drop the charges), which is legal in Arizona.. But it's prompted the NRL to look deeper.

Rusty and his brown paper bags...

These two probably left whatever club organised function the rest of the boys were at to continue getting shitfaced.. way to let yourselves and the club down.

Lurgess gorn and Sutton on the outer is punishment enough.

Dave smith is now under pressure to terminate Shane Richardsons NRL contract apparently

It's Greenberg all over again. Banker Dave is obviously easily fooled by silver tongues that hide skeletons really well.

The other thing that crossed my mind is maybe it's deliberate - he's choosing these people to help in the way the NRL handles its situations, being more like the AFL where things are still dirty under the surface but are "managed" better. As in, quieter. If that's the case, I'm glad it's backfired, no one trusts Greenberg and no one has confidence in the NRL, and really, why should they?

As far as Smith is concerned, I don't think it matters who runs the NRL because unlike the AFL, the old boys seem to have a vested interest in having a go at whomever is in charge of the administration at the time, regardless of whether it's beneficial or not.

Whether you like them or not, the AFL seems to be quite good at quelling the dissent from the former players/coaches etc for the most part (excluding the Essendon thing which has blown up completely).

I think the only appropriate punishment for Souths is to be stripped of the 2014 premiership, again leaving Inglis without a premiership ring, lol.

I could live with that.

Won't the fans be gutted?

Their team finally wins a premiership and it gets taken away... Lol that would be hilarious.

My thoughts exactly. I'm not that keen on Aussie Rules but the way their game is administrated puts the administration in our game to shame.

Disagree about Souths having their premiership taken off them. This incident has happened 4 months or so after winning the title and this matter is not football related and has nothing to do with the premiership win.

Nailed it. I don't understand why the integrity unit doesn't investigate everything? Players are employed by the clubs but don't they have to be registered with the NRL - that should give them the final say.

On a broader note, Souths have form when dealing with off-field issues. Weren't they the club that gave that player a slap on the wrist for a domestic violence issue not long ago? Pretty weak stuff all round.
