Isn't Thurston a Kiwi, as well?

I'm pretty sure his father is a Kiwi and NZ tried convincing him to play for them.

It's an interesting point you make.Looking at the list of winners I think they are all Australian except Burgess and he was the NRL's favourite child that year.Have there been any who maybe should have won it but were overlooked?

Milford should have won it last year ... But Thurston was always going to get it if the Cowgirls won.

Yeah agree but I was more talking about players who represent other countries.

Mason was born in Auckland.

Mason was born in Auckland.

Wore a green and gold Kangaroo jumper and is a Newcastle junior. Might've been born in NZ but he probably wasn't toilet trained when he moved to Australia as a 2 year old.

What i mean is that the CCM is for the Kangaroo players/origin players.

Didn't Burgess win it in 2014 ... And he is neither.

Moa should have won it for the Roosters. The BS explanation was "he only played 40 minutes". Ignoring Kite winning it previously despite the same.

What foreign player would you have given it to?

Ward is the only one I can think of that could have won.

Every Clive Churchill Medal I've disagreed with

Mark Geyer should've won it in 1991 but it went to Brad Clyde

Glen Lazarus or Kevin Walters should've won it in 1993 but it went to Brad Mackay

Tonie Carroll should've won it in 1998 but it went to Gordon Tallis

Tawera Nikau should've won it in 1999 but it went to Brett Kimmorley

Luke Phillips should've won it in 2000 but it went to Darren Lockyer

Ben Kennedy should've won it 2001 but it went to Andrew Johns

Cooper Cronk should've won it 2009 but it went to Billy Slater

Jason Nightingale/Jamie Soward/ Dean Young should've won it in 2010 but it went to Darius Boyd

Sam Moa or James Maloney should've won it in 2013 but it went to DCE

Michael Morgan or Jake Granville should've won it last year but it went to Jonathan Thurston

Personally I can't really split Young, Nightingale or Soward in 2010 but there is no way in the world Boyd was the best in that game.

Re: Brisbane Broncos 2016 predictions

So Nightingale and Nikau are two Kiwis that could have/should have won it. I'm glad you mentioned Kennedy in 01, he put in one of the greatest GF performances ever in that game and while Johns was really, really good, Kennedy was on another level that day.

Re: Brisbane Broncos 2016 predictions

Sorry, but it should have gone to Milford, he was clearly the best player on the field.

Seeing him breaking through the line in the 60th minute single handedly is what did it for me. Even though we lost, it made me proud to be a Broncos supporter, I'm still telling people he should have won it but everyone is caught up in the Thurston hype.

Don't get me wrong, Thurston was easily the best player consistently last year, but he did nothing special in the Grand Final except for kicking a simple field goal and yet he was the best on field. You are right, he got it because of the hype surrounding him and the Cowboys.

Nothing special?

He only beat three defenders to give the Cowboys one last golden opportunity to win the game.

Apart from that, his kicking game was a major point of difference between both sides and he was the most likely player for the Cowboys through out the second half, creating opportunities that others messed up.

That description seems more befitting a Michael Morgan who actually had a poor game outside of his glorious flick pass.

I can understand why the selectors went for him on that performance, however I couldn't have given it to him after his mistake in the lead up to the Gillett try. For that reason, I would have given it to Milford who tore the game open or Tamou who came up with some crucial plays in key moments.
