OFFICIAL Coby Black to join Raiders in 2026, He's Gone

I think the Pezet gap year has made it hard for Black, does he take a deal now or wait he can't compete with Pezet for 12 months. Also, the Broncos didn't fight too hard to extend him either. If they thought, he was going to play a part in the Broncos beyond 2026 he wouldn't have got beyond October 31.

I would say Simon and the team have said mate if you can get a deal beyond '26 we can't promise that at the moment.

To me it translates that the Club were probably not as high on him as others might be.. I wish the kid well and really hope he has a long succesful career in the NRL.

Yep !
I reckon he will be gone before the season starts .

And all the, he`s going to get coached by Sticky talk . What better halves coach ? What a load of Cod`s Wallop .
Might be telling that he wasn't at the initial preseason run last week.

One of his direct competitors was there in Duffy.

Although that mightve been a get the new guys in here and see what their baseline is

He signed for two years in June 2023, end of his second Meninga season and Wynnum playing finals. Then extended until end of 2026. Somewhere in there it's fallen apart.

I think this year was the season that jumped the shark. Souths never got started, he didn't look happy, and he was just never playing engaging football.

At no time this year with Souths did he look like a Cup player that could play NRL. I think if he hadn't been with the Broncos and just a Magpie, he gets dropped from Cup. It's pretty telling that Souths' attack was right up there yet their 7 wasn't.

Maybe without pressure this year he has a great Cup year, and Ricky is pretty happy with himself in 12 months' time.

I think we need to be cautious who we put next to Milf at Souths though.

He plays like a dominant 7 nowadays (started through the backhalf of his NRL career), but then he also plays on the left.

No point having a 7 there if Milf is just going to take all the kicking and first receiver.

He needs a running 6 next to him, but theyre typically on the left.

I'm assuming Duffy will go to Wynnum to replace Madden.

Im guessing Coby stays at Souths at least for next year, but dont want to throw the wrong person in there for 2027

Milford and Black just never sorted it out. Black at Bears with Rogers would have been a good fit in hindsight.

I don't think the Wynnum, Bears, Souths change helped. Black played for Wynnum-22, Wynnum-23, Bears 24, Souths-24, Souths 25.

That's a lot of disruption and change in three years. You could have kept him at Bears after Meninga 24. But no way his form was better than Hamiliton and Rogers so Burt probably says get stuffed to my idea.

I think the thing that should also be highlighted is that he just wasn’t developing or getting better over time in any significantly measurable way.

Being told you're the next best thing probably affected the subconscious, started playing within himself and got noticed.

I think it's probably just another case of BHQ getting it wrong about a player and his ability.

The fact the club would rather keep a couple of retirees and buy young halves.... I mean, it's pretty telling what they thought of him...
I think a lot of the hype comes from Bloke in a bar and rugby league guru, like many of us having only seen a couple of games/highlights where he played good. Had some moments in the origin this year where he scored a try and got a field goal. Remember he played pretty good in a Broncos vs Wynnum trial a couple of years ago which most people watch because they are thirsty for footy after the off season. Black scoring 40 points or so when Burleigh smashed wide bay by 130 definitely hyped him up too and created a lot of unwarranted headlines. 90% of people, me included don’t take much notice of the week in week out form of players in Mal Meninga/QCup which is what matters.

That 46 points was a curse; there hasn't been an article written about him since that didn't mention it. It was the only thing that anyone knew about him to write.

They should have been writing about it was concerning Black had a star-studded team and couldn't get it done in the finals for the second year in a row.

Sounds like if we had a reserve grade team with total control over who/where/how players were playing, Black might’ve had a better time and kicked on.

Instead they get put into seemingly random teams with players and coaches they may not fit in with and plans that may not be very beneficial.

The problem is the QRL site is such a pile of dogshit, and has only got worse since Ikin took control. There are **** all replays or player highlight packages now. And what they do have isn't updated for days.

Every game is telecast but locked behind a paywall, and watched live by crickets.

Any Broncos fan worth their salt wants to see how their feeder team players are shaping up and putting pressure on their prospective positions. The QRL doesn't give a shit about us fans.

The Cup seems to only exist as punishment.

Black coming back is as far fetched as those that reckon Dearden's coming back.

Once bitten, twice shy - they'll never return.
I don't reckon broncos is by far the most prestigious club to play for, nothing will ever beat it's supporter base and the energy the club can generate. I think the plan is clearly in place to get black to perform under the raiders and an opportunity available for him to come to broncos on a decent salary if he comes through, similar to Walsh at the warriors.
