The greatest coach we will see has joined the legends of Australian sport.

This is easily the most prestigious honour anyone involved in Aussie sport can be gifted.

IMO Hall of Fame > Immortal concept - The judging process is fair and thorough - you certainly can't dispute the credentials of any members.

Great honour for the great man. Now that's what I call a role model !!! Thoroughly deserved !!

Congratulations to him, you couldn't think of anyone more deserving.

The greatest coach we will see

debatable - both as the best coach we've seen so far, and best we'll ever see.

Having said that, congratulations to him. Despite what I think of his coaching over the last decade I'll gladly say he was the best coach around before then.

I think you missed the memo - this thread is a WB love-fest where one can come and reflect upon his greatness. No criticism tolerated.

Seven Premierships with the prospect of many more to come says best ever. Deal wit it.

Couldn't go to a more deserving person. He has achieved a lot in his career and considering he wouldn't have had the easiest personal life makes it even more remarkable that he's been able to achieve what he has.

He's a brilliant coach who helped build our club to become the most prestigious sporting brand in Australia.

A great award for one of the greatest Rugby League personalities in the game's history. A role-model and a great coach. I hope parents with disabled children realise the hope he gives.

i dont want to derail the thread, but what do you mean by this? Yes he has 2 disabled children, but he received "gifts" of over $1m over the years from the Thoroughbreds, to go with his hundreds of thousands of dollars per year salary. Is he giving hope to people that they can also get "gifts" like that from rich businessman as incentives to stay as the coach of an NRL team? I just dont understand what youre getting at.

Great honour for a great coach. I do agree with AP that he isn't the best currently coaching in terms of their ability right now but there is no questioning his CV over his career. To win 7 premierships from 7 grand final attempts is extrodinary!

Wayne Bennett deserves this. He is a legend of the game and more importantly a legend of the Brisbane Broncos.

I think the point is his children pre-dated him becoming a superstar NRL coach. He developed his coaching career while raising 2 severely disabled children. It's not all him obviously, huge credit to his wife Trish who is an absolute rock. But what he presents is an example that having disabled children isn't a death sentence for your own hopes and dreams.

I think that's the hope he gives parents of disabled children.

All the financial wealth and assistance he has now is largely irrelevant and is just reward for all he's achieved.

The other thing is WB is doing things away from the media spotlight, things that are noble and doing these things without the expectation of praise and thanks. He also used his money to help others including the gifts mentioned. There is much unreported about WB that may come to light after he is gone. As Coxy correctly pointed out he has had the difficulties of raising children with impairments for a long time and some of that time predates his financial success.

question - is this still how we feel now that Andrew Johns has also been inducted into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame?

"Newcastle Knights coach Wayne Bennett and former star halfback, Andrew Johns have been inducted in the Sport Australia Hall of Fame."

The Aus Sport Hall of Fame is what it is - it transcends all petty agendas. It's much larger than one drug-tainted former League player. It's the benchmark for sporting achievement in this country.

The fact Bennett has achieved recognition as a coach is even more incredible - he's in a very, very select group. Most members earned their nomination for their athletic prowess; very few coaches, support staff or administrators have been given the accolade.

Amazing honour for both.
