Corey Norman

LOL! Nice thread, Ningnaingnong.....

Maybe so, he has the physique and size - but I seriously question whether he has the intent to bring it back at speed time and time again?

I recall Hoffman not returning kicks that strongly when he first started.

Reckon Nornan is better equipped for it nowadays.

Remember he is filling the shoes of Darren Lockyer. He has done quite well this year all things considered. Rubbish thread show some loyalty Ning.

It wasn't "ningnangnong" that started this thread. It was an impersonator.

It's all good, B-man. We cool. :handshake:

Well i'm quite prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt. I don't think he's played that badly in his first full year at starting 5/8th.

He hasn't been bad. He just hasn't done much good. He's just....there.

Norman could at least do the play we used to do with KHunt, just chuck him at fb and Ben in the 6 and we've got creativity all over the park. Or just get Normam and Hoffman to pull their fingers out, I swear to god not seeing that play at all this year grinds my guys.

I think they try it, but invariably Hoffman is running far too shallow. It worked so well with Hunt because he was so deep behind the play. Gave him room and time to work out what line to run and see what the outside defence was doing, and decide whether to kick, pass, dummy.

That's our biggest problem in attack - far too shallow, meaning far little time to read the defence.

He's been ok. I think he's standing too flat and the rush defence has figured out he likes to run the ball. He needs to be a bit more versatile and develop his passing game. It's not panic stations yet but Friday night showed how much Wallace is forced to carry the team when Norman has an off night. Wallace is a workmanlike 'steady as she goes' halfback, not the most creative and it's obvious when he's doing all of the creative play.

It's been pointed out by quite a few people that the Broncos are really potent when they start a set around half way, and yet when we start a set within the 20m we rarely look like busting them.

All of it comes down to our attacking structure.

From 50m out, with our big forwards running flat off Macca, we get that roll on. Get a quick play the ball, go again, and usually the defence has had little time to move up. That opens opportunities for forwards to pass before the line and find holes on the fringes.

From 20m out, the defence is set and can get up quicker. Particularly once we're about 10m out, the defence doesn't have to retreat. So they can get up in our faces and our time to find those gaps on the fringes is non-existent.

Griffin's not dumb. He must see this. And he must be working on our players, particularly halves, back row and backline, getting deeper as we get within 15-20m of the opposition line. Give Wallace, Norman, Hoffman more time and space with the ball, and make the defence make the decisions rather than the attackers having to make rushed decisions.

I really don't understand the logic behind the "flat" style of attack we have now. I mean the only slight advantage is that when you have width in your attack it can make you feel a bit disorganised, lost, and sometimes moving backwards a bit....and it's less likely to happen with a flat attack. But other than that it's useless IMO.

Pretty much anyone who has a fair understanding of RL, has come to the same conclusion regarding how flat we stand in attack, taking away many of our options and especially time to make a decision.

This is also a consequence of the slow play the balls we seem to be consistently getting, especially near the opposition try line, which are not punished by the refs. This was very obvious on Friday night, with the Sharks players storming out of the line as soon as the ball was played and quickly getting in the face of our playmakers.

What puzzles me is that in a professional organisation such as ours, there seems to be no real action being taken to improve this critical area of the game.
Maybe Hook is primarily focussing on the defense and resilience of this still very young team, hoping we'll reap the rewards in the near future and have at least a couple of serious digs at a premiership...

It's not like it's an overly complex plan. Just give yourself an extra meter depth compared to your inside man and time your run!
