Now we can all see the bad about what the Storm have done and as fans of other clubs we have every right to be pissed. However looking at the crowd for the Storm V Warriors game (23,905) and all the media attention around this, Could Rugby League in Victoria come out a winner?

I was talking to a mate who lives in Melbourne she is a die hard AFL fan, however she went to the Storm V Warriors game along with a large group of mates for the soul reason of "Supporting another Victorian side screwed by NSW". She was also telling me that at her work (Some Pub in melbourne buggers me what one) the talk at the bar has been all about Rugby League. She also informed me that everyone she went with now intend to go to every game as they did not relise how much fun at day out at a league game was and they want to see their Victorian team stick it to QLD and NSW.

So putting aside all the obvious negatives around this... Could there be a positive?

If it overhauls the salary cap and allows clubs to pay their players a competitive amount, then maybe, but in it's current form, no.

I also think the article by Matt Elliot on the matter was a load of crap.

If Billy Slater goes to Union it could be great for the NRL!! Also if this incident manages to get the Salary cap fixed then yes!

It definitely could be a positive. If it gets crowds to the game and something is done about the salary cap, then hopefully it does become a positive.

Like I said in the other thread, I really think the Storm will get through this, and yesterday's game is a great indication of that. The Storm had no trouble finding new sponsors in a short timeframe and got a good crowd at a stadium that is not a Rugby League ground. Once they get to the rectangular stadium the crowds will average 20000+ IMO.

It depends on the direction the Storm take, but I've got no doubt they'll be apart of this competition for years to come.

Dont forget that Melbourne are now playing the anti sydney card as well

And that they're nothing a Victorian loves more then a cheat, perhaps this was a tactic all along!

I will wait and see if the high crowds continue throughout the season or drop off once the saga is old news. Though I did hear also that they signed up 300 new members between when it all came out and kick off last night - so that is a positive.

Who were the new sponsors?

As far i as heard all they did was switch their sleeve sponsors to the front

Yeah. They didn't get any new sponsors. Suzuki and Jayco decided to help them out.

Well yeh, not new sponsors, but not everyone has jumped off anyway which is a good thing.

Melbourne fans have every right to be pissed off with Gallup and co. The NRL wants a team in Victoria, derives a benefit from having a team in Victoria, proudly trumpets the success of the Victorian team and puts not one dollar towards that team !!

The Storm are the flagbearers of Rugby League down south and promote the game in an extremely hostile environment. The game only gets covered by one station simply because of the bias that exists in the small minds of the TV heavies in that state. They have played on unsuitable grounds for the entire time they have been in existence. Their training environment has always been on unsuitable grounds yet we never heard them complain in fact they have raised the bar and no, not because they paid a few of their stars over the top. They have succeeded through a well led and considered plan.

They have been a success through hard work under extremely trying conditions with every single player coming from another state or country . The NRL has not assisted them nor has it made any allowance for the fact that everyone has to leave their homes and family to go to Melbourne to make the success happen. No other club has to make the sacrifices that Melbourne endures. They should be allowed an extra 10/20 % in their cap to compensate and to attract players to leave their family and home.

The Storm are the benchmark and will, at least in my eyes, be the NRL champions in the years they successfully contested the GF. The NRL are wrong and this whole sorry saga could have been avoided if the Storm were allowed to pay overs. It is fair and equitable. Remember too, the NRL wants to retain it's stars and stop the exodus overseas and to Union but do they help ?? NO,but they must have guessed when the top tier stayed in league, so they knew and are complicit. Scum administration.

Can you not repeat the same opinion in 4 paragraphs or more in every thread, sometimes multiple times? We get your opinion.

Aren't the NRL putting 3.3 Million Dollars towards the Storm? Or was that something else.[/quote:47bkgkgi]

Could sworn i saw something along those lines.

Why do the NRL need to give the storm money? They are owned by News Limited......They dont need NRL's backing in terms of the dollars....

eh?

Coxy, surely you are joking. It's an internet forum and people are encouraged to voice opinions. Many posters on this forum repeat their assertions . They choose to use slightly different ways to my own but a lot are along the lines of the following. The ..(insert team here)..are scum, champions, great, cheats, arseholes, whatever and I hope they fail, win ,lose whatever. In other words simplistic terms that reflect their preferences. Other posters repeat similar sentiment in multiple places according to their bias, nothing wrong with that.

I indicate my view and support it with reason. I don't simply say I like/dislike a thing without some supporting argument. Sometimes it requires a few paragraphs to clearly elucidate.

I'm simply saying it doesn't need to be repeated in every thread related to this topic. Especially when it's not totally relevant to the topic of the thread.

You haven't said how it could be "good for the game", just merely repeated, ala Gus Gould, that the NRL's salary cap is wrong and caused this **** up in the first place.

+1

Sorry Huge but my intention for this thread was to discuss any positive outcome we may get from this as the other thread is mostly negative.

Ah Coxy...on page 18 of the other thread where we were discussing the salary cap my opening statement read as follows.... Actually, in principle I don't disagree with the cap !! However it's best features are not used because the self interested Sydney based clubs stopped it from happening. The lack of allowances for players developed is the problem and the NRL are to blame for kowtowing to the demands of the Sydney centrics.'

I did not , as you can plainly see, blame the salary cap and did in fact say how it could be improved, thus how it was good for the game.

Perhaps you missed it although it was directed at you and in response to your post.
