NEWS Crash Tackle: Sad Inescapable Truth for Boyd (extract)

We know Crash, everyone fucking knows. The issue is we can’t get a half to stay on the fucking park at the moment. You and all your dickhead mates would know this if you did even casual research and analysis of the sport you write about.

One thing though, we could probably find someone who could contribute a bit more than DB has done recently. Tagataese ha ha ?

Macca is probably injured but even slow Old Gil McCollough at least offer some semblance of a kicking game and probably won’t miss 30% of his tackles.

Any news on the shoulder injury, sidelined 5 weeks possibly??

The issue is when we have either a Dearden or a SOS available, you can’t help but feel that they will keep Boyd at 6 just to accommodate Darius in first grade still. His impact on the game at 5/8 is even less than what a broken shouldered Cooper Cronk provided in the 2018 GF.

I wish the club would grow some fucking balls and drop him to at least spark something. If he fails in reserve grade then we know he is truly done.
I’m sick to death of hearing we can’t drop him because he is on big money or because he is the captain. Anyone remember Kurt Gidley captaining NSW from the bench?

If your not in the top 17 performing players in your squad in your respective positions, you shouldn’t be in first grade end of discussion. If your on big money and not performing to standard, that’s just bad management and shouldn’t justify a guaranteed first grade jersey.

Just give the captaincy to Glenn next year and move on.

Who are you calling slow? Macca ran down a full charging Wallace like he was standing still! Macca has wind beneath his wings and Boyd has the eye of the tiger. Together they will lead us to Valhalla!

Maybe it's his last year and that's why they're keeping him in the team.

Boyd is perfecty capable of fulfilling the centre spot currently held by a second rower (Alex Glenn) or a rookie (Herbie or Coates). In fact, that is the only spot left in the team to keep the captain on the park...

Is he though?

Seibs said last night that Boyd is there until SOS or Dearden are back. Basically the direct opposite of what you are claiming.

Siebs clearly stated Boyd is the best option they have at this current time. That doesn't sound like a glowing endorsement. The only thing that can stop Boyd being replaced is Boyd. I feel they will give him a chance elsewhere before he is stepped down.

Does Boyd understand what sort of legacy he is building for himself? Playing on when you are adding nothing to a struggling team will be what people remember about him - not all the great games he's played.

I now understand that Boyd only played well when the coach (Bennett) structured most of the attacking plays around him - fullback coming in from the back, creating two against three and then Boyd selecting the pass.

That's all Boyd did in attack last year - and pretty much the last five-six years. Seibs isn't coaching that way. Boyd is left with no attacking contribution to the team. No speed. No kicking. Missing 1/4 of his tackles.

Just go. Do an Alfie and go.

I've just started following his wife on insta.

I get the vibe that she's the boss (no problem with this) and to build her brand further needs Darius to continue being the Broncos captain. Once she doesn't need this she will tell him when it's time to step down. Perhaps once she gets her life settled post the newborn baby phase....

I'd say they (she) has a plan in place for his retirement.

It can be a weird blind tunnel when its time to hang up the boots. The motivation and hunger will disappear quicker than they realise, not because they are being ignorant but just because they are mentally done and don't see it coming.

In some ways, Seibs keeping him captain is pushing him to walk away. If he wasn't captain there wouldn't be as much scrutiny. We all know that Glenn or Lodge (i don't support lodge as captain) for example could genuinely do a better leadership job on the park.

They flip houses don't they , I'm sure he will do that full time after footy.
