Cronk Wins Dally M

why did they do a tie for 5/8th of the year? those awards arent votes like the actual dally m are they?

Thurston and Carney got the same amount of points (votes).

The votes for the main award decide the positional awards. Makes sense as if they were seperated you could have Cronk win the Dally M player of the year but DCE win the halfback of the year which wouldnt make sense.

you sure? i was sure there have been times where someone has come like 2nd in overall dally m placing but didnt win their positional player of the year.

for example: in 2009 robbie farah finished well ahead of ennis in the dally m voting, yet ennis was dally m hooker of the year. in 2010, gallen finished 5th overall, behind carney, farah, boyd, and marshall, yet he didnt win a positional award.

looking back there are lots where the positional winner finished lower overall than other players in their same position. afaik only the overall winner is assured of their positional win as well.

Bit surprised too see corn chip get it. I thought that DCE, SBW or GI would've had a far better chance. Cronk was Big Leagues player of the year as well btw.
did you watch any melbourne games this year, especially ones in the first half of the year? cronk was just unbelievable.

I'm pretty sure, i mean i don't pay a lot of attention to the awards but i did read that Carney and Thurston both polled 26 votes so it immediately made sense to me that they shared the reward. I also think Fifita polled 14 votes and Matt Scott for eg polled 13 votes hence Fifita gets the win.

nah it cant be that, cause matt scott wasnt even nominated for best prop.

and yeh, see my above post. positional awards are more "favourites" awards, not based on votes by the looks of it. thats how thaiday managed to snag a win or 2.

Most of the awards are fair enough, would have given winger to Taufua or McManus rather than TVS though.

That's where he won it, in the first half of the season.

I think that including the GF of 2012, world club challenge and the first 5-6 rounds of this year, Cronk won consecutive man of the match awards in all of these games.

He started the season hot. Went luke warm to cold round about R20

That said....the Dally M awards are a joke.
They mean nothing .....

Thought Matt Scott should have won rep player of the year over Smith. Smith was good but Scott basically carried QLDs forward pack this year.

agreed. scotts efforts were just immense all year, especially origin. thought it was rough for him not to even get nominated for best prop.

yeah, I thought Scott and Parker (and that isn't just a homer vote) were better than Smith in this year's Origin. Scott would have been a well deserving winner!

Thaiday was, as usual, one of the 4 nominees for best second rower. if that doesnt show how much of a joke they are, nothing ever will. the positional awards are just the favourites awards.

Yeah, I didn't expect him to win it but I was shocked that he wasn't even nominated.

Cronk wouldn't have been my pick but it's good to see him finally receive this recognition. Going in, I don't think there was a real stand out but if it was up to me I would have given the award to DCE who I felt was the more consistent across the season, c'est la vie.

Most of the choices were spot on. Glad that Cordner received recognition in the backrow - would have thought his team mate SBW would have picked up the award on reputation but Boyd has been one of the better performers for a couple of seasons now.

Couple of awards I don't agree with. I think recognising two players for a position is a bit half-ass. If they had to make the choice then I'd have to give it to TC. Honestly, I thought JT was a little off this season and his good performances were very few and far between. I would have thought Mullen would have been a better candidate all things considered.

Also wouldn't have selected RTS on the wing. He's a quality prospect and has serious potential to be a star of the future but he still had plenty of faults in his game and I didn't think he came up with enough highlights to compensate. Very close field but would have opted for a James McManus or Jorge Taufua personally.

It wasn't just reputation, SBW was clearly the best second rower this year. Cordner is a gun and is easily the best young second rower coming through along with Papalli... but SBW has really been even better.

I don't think Sonny has been better but he was certainly right up there in terms of performance - I just thought reputation would have iced it for him.

In saying all that, Watmough would have been my pick. Not a fan of him but he's carried the Manly pack all season and is a huge reason for them making it as far as they have.

Watmough has been great, but while he's been getting picked in the 2nd row, he was really playing lock. Glenn Stewart was the opposite, and he is lucky to be in first grade.

The Dally M judges didn't view it that way given Watmong was a nominee for the second row award.

That's why I'm glad Watmough didn't win 2nd rower of the year.
