Current Broncos team

What that article fails to mention is that our defence, particularly around the ruck, has been horrible. With our completion rate and 3.5 tries per game average, we would win many more games if our defensive structure was better.

I totally disagree that our attack has been bad this year, at least when compared with a lot of other teams. Consistency, especially in defence, has been our downfall.

Yes, the defence is a major issue: line speed and effective tackling (and not leaving your winger).

The attack is good when it works, but it is true that we don't do anything creative unless in their red zone, but, that did change a bit in the Warriors game, and reminded me of the same passing game involving the forwards last year (for maybe 1.5 games).

Otherwise, we are boring and utterly predictable except when in their 20. Any criticism, and there's been plenty about our attack is 99% correct

I think Griffin is a big part of why we aren't entertaining (or even good). Horrible coach.

Well, lol, we will soon see if the forward passing variations continue, and the talk from Wallace that he and Prince are finally (yawn) coming together and a huge lift in form by Macca as a result of quick play the balls and running forward support proves Hook's credentials, one way or the other.

(**** I hate it when Broncos games are put 2nd in fucking NSW especially when the opposition is the Storm - Tigers and Sharks ... How boring).

Well the coach and his team are true to their word if nothing else.
They said at the start of the season they would make our 25th anniversary MEMORABLE

we've now won 11 of our last 32 NRL games.

eels have won 8 of their last 28.

compare the QLD/NSW/NZ/POM reps between the sides and who's record is better????

we've done the honesty sessions. the bonding sessions. the D&M's. and we still cant win a game.

i know whats next...

It's probably time for some changes.
You think? :001_rolleyes:

I'm not one for the wholesale dropping of players but maybe one or two changes and a few positional swaps might do the trick.
What exactly is this "trick" that you speak of?

Our bench is in dire straits. I'm convinced that's a big reason why we've struggled to put together a quality 80 minuter performance. Apart from good signs from Hala, none of them come on and make the impact they should be.
The starting players are not building a platform. The bench is not there to come in and bandaid errors from the starting team, they are there to supplement them and give them a rest.

It's frustrating persisting with the same side expecting a different result. Either mix the line-up a tad or start coming up with a different game plan.
How does one mix the line-up a tad?

Parker is the form forward I dare say of the entire NRL at the moment.

His tackle breaks and offloads are just wasted by the Broncos because we have no clue how to play second phase play.

We also lack a finisher outside Hodges or a fullback that can run support play off our forwards.

Absolutely, I'd go so far as to say if we had won a couple more games and were in the top 8, Parker would be very close to, if not leading the Dally M polling. He is 4 points away from 1st place (Cronk - 16 vs 12). I could see Parker having some more points with a few more wins.

Agree completely with Parkers's performances. I check the stats every week and can't believe what I'm reading. Take his effort against the Warriors: 19 runs, 181m, 46 tackles, 3 offloads.

If ever anyone deserved a win, it's him.

The biggest problems with this team are Andrew Gee, Anthony Griffin and Sam Thaiday. Our recruitment, retention and leadership are all basically non existent.

Been a while since I've posted about my beloved Broncos. A couple of years of frustration yelling at the telly, reading articles of our lost aura and so on and so on.......... There should be a Maxi Taxi to Brisbane Airport and on it would be -

Wallace, Norman, Anderson, Prince, Dodds, McSlowhooker just for starters. I understand this may earn the wrath of some out there but as the great mastercoach Benny once wrote...... If you do what you've always done you'll get what you've always got !!!!!!! I used to get so angry watching the demise of our proud club and like one of the many previous posters on this site I love the club.........but some of these players simply either aren't up to it or simply aren't trying hard enough. Anger has over the last couple of years turned into disinterest, but I believe all Broncos fans simply yearn for a team we can be proud of. No that does not mean meaning the GF every second year. Simply a team that never gives in and plays an entertaining brand of footy. I remember the Broncos missing the semis in the early years and although they may have faltered, they were never boring. This particular squad is heading south, and the dishwashing liquid is being squeezed all over the slip & slide. White & Gee have some hard questions to answer and I hope they are strong enough and honest enough to look in the mirror and start heading the club in a more positive direction. And finally if we were lucky enough to sign Benny Barba, geez I hope he isn't to be lumbered with the "he will fix all our problems" as that would be merely the first block laid into turning the club around as well as being incredibly unfair on Barba.

I think what It comes down to is we banked on our juniors turning into great players and most of us were prepared for an average season of two for that to eventuate and for the players to mature. Players like Glenn, Hunt, Macca have just not kicked on. Sure Glenn has played for NZ but his form this year had been dreadful. Hunt has been giving fewer opportunities then the others but he was been shit when given the opportunities in the halves so he hasn't taken the chances he has been given.

Yow Yeh, McGuire have been great as well as Hoffman this year. The rest of of juniors have shown very little talent or none at all.

People bag Sammy for saying that we need to regain confidence, but I do think that will go a long way to make things turn. With confidence (and almost any other winger in the comp), last night's result would've been totally different, and we wouldn't have capitulated in the last 15 minutes like we did, because we probably would've been leading the score...

Of course, confidence is not enough. There are other things that need to happen, like granting Maranta an immediate release if he wants to go to the Sharks. I'd put Dunamis Lui on the wing ahead of him!
I've watched the Broncos press conference and saw Hook and Thaiday drop their masks for a split moment at the very end, when talking about Maranta.

People talk about wholesale changes, 1, 5, 6, 7, 9. Hook, Gee have to go, etc...
When has that ever worked in the history of Rugby League, or any sport for that matter? We certainly have the NSW'kers example from the last 7 years to prove how it doesn't work, much less without actual replacements with a chance to do better!

This is where we need to start in my opinion:

- Maranta has to go. He couldn't find the try line to save his life. As I said, I don't care who we put there, because he won't be worse.
- Norman has to go. His nonchalance and lack of effort or commitment is contagious. Put Granville there or Bond, or Kahu, and fucking do whatever it takes to get Barba signed for next season!
- Besides wielding the axe, Griffin has to turn this team around. I don't care whether we make the 8 or not, but by the end of this season, if this team is still missing 30+ tackles every game and dropping their heads every time something goes against them, he has to go! People want flair when we don't even have the basics right ffs. We missed another 34 tackles against the Storm's 13!

To be honest, I think Griffin has to go anyway. Hoffman and Parker are the only players that have improved under him, and I don't even think he has that much merit... The rest of the players have either gone back, or can't play their natural game within Hook's rigid structures. He hasn't evolved with the times and he can't achieve even consistency from his players...

As Finance guy and I have suggested before. Throw the fucking kitchen sink at Madge, give him a blank cheque and throw all the influence the mighty Broncos have into making this happen. If there is a club capable of giving souffs a taste of their own medicine, it's ours!

Once we have the above stuff down pat, we can re-evaluate the rest of the spine.
