As I said earlier, Woods would be a smokey for Prop of the year. Ennis I can live with as he had a major impact on the Sharks. But Austin and Taumalolololooooo? Really? Jackson should count himself lucky as well IMO. Wade Graham more deserving.

Jackson is the only selection I don't understand.

At least the others seemed to have their best years in 2015, Jackson wasn't even the best Bulldog second-row and is the definition of a quiet achiever.

I could see the argument against Wade since he can be really inconsistent at times. However, given the theme seemed to be about potential more than actual week to week performance, he was head and shoulders above Jackson.

The media loves Lolo, but I've been disappointed in his 2015. I wouldn't go as far to say he's been shit, in fact, he's been good but there were so many occasions where I watched the Cowboys struggle, looking for a Lolo and instead having to rely on a Linnett, Asiata, Hannant or Bolton to bail them out.

LOLz. We are into the grand final but not one player in the 'team of the year'. That's some sort of achievement.

To be fair, the reason we're here is because it's been an awesome team effort.

Puts Brisbane on par with the Warriors 2011, Storm 2009, Tigers 2005, Newcastle 2001, Roosters 2000 (Webcke the only player from either side), Melbourne 1999, Dragons 1996, Broncos 1993, Dragons 1993, Penrith 1990, Bulldogs 1988, Bulldogs 1985, Newtown 1981, Bulldogs 1980.

Damn, more than I expected!

Just on stats, how many times has the Medal winner gone on to win a premiership in the same year? Not too many I don't think.

Four times.

Ray Price (1982)
Michael Potter (1984)
Peter Sterling (1986)
Matt Orford (2008)

Orford only won in 2008 because Slater served a suspension, robbing him of the lead.

The judges for these awards are retarded. Look at this epic list

  • Fox Sports: Greg Alexander, Gary Belcher and Ben Ikin.
  • Channel 9: Brad Fittler, Andrew Johns and Wally Lewis.
  • Sky NZ: Daryl Halligan.
  • The Daily Telegraph: Paul Crawley, Paul Kent, Josh Massoud, Dean Ritchie, Barry Toohey and Nick Walshaw.

Can't really take Dally Ms seriously with these guys. But at least the most deserving players won player of the year in their comps.

Jason Taumalolo lock of the year...

Probably one of the most overhyped forwards in the game. He has some good games, but he has been inconsistent and he still fucking wins it?

They need to take voting away from the public... Seriously, it's embarrassing.

The lowest IQ's on Fox Sports.

I can't watch NRL 360 because of Ikin.

Paul Kent asks a legitimate question about WB etc & Ikin thinks he is having a go & arcs up.

Austin, Jackson and Lolo are a bit bewildering.

Austin had some good moments, exceeded expectations, and was a pretty good buy that lifted a fairly sub par team.

Michael Morgan trounced in him in every key area except tackle busts. Maloney also out performed Hagar the Horrible. I suppose both of them are the victims of higher expectations, while the inverse is true of Austin.

Second row is a bit murkier, as I don't recall too many dominant performances this year. Usual mainstays like Cordner, Gillett, Papa, Bird, etc were all pretty quiet. I remember one from Jackson where he scored a double around origin time but other than that he was dependable and not much more. Wade Graham had several performances where he really stood up for the Sharks. Cooper and Pritchard would also get my vote before Josh.

Taumalolo really struggled to live up to his hype this year. Not to say he was bad but the figures that were being tossed around during his contract negotiations were absurdly high. As if he was the best forward in the game. On his day he's an absolute destroyer, but those days aren't often enough for mine. Parker or Gallen have him covered easily, until he can prove a consistent performer week by week.

I know this seems to come up every year with these awards, but I don't understand why the team of the year isn't just based on the dally m votes. Sure there might still be some contentious issues in scenarios where a player has played in more than one position throughout the year, but in most cases it should be straightforward.

So looking at the 5/8th of the year, Austin won it, but Maloney polled more dally m votes that him. Surely it would make more sense to give it to Maloney. There might still be some debate as to whether Austin or Maloney should have polled more votes, but at least whoever did would be the winner.

Austin... who decides these things? He had a purple patch during some flat track bully games and then did nothing from about round 16 onwards.

Taumololo... Well contained now, he's like a better version of Hala. Never seen an offload or a pass before the line from him ever. Surely Parker has been easily the best week in week out lock forward by a country mile?

(Please don't have a good game on Sunday to spite me)

Or I could have serious simmering Supercoach frustration.

These awards are never accurate and are always amateurish...very much a strong reflection of the NRL itself, so no surprises in the selections for me. At least Thurston was the rightful winner of best player in the game, though Hunt is clearly the number 2 right now.

I feel your pain. He's burned me two years in a row.

Not like Supercoach is the be all and end all but his statistics therein are telling. More often than not he hasn't played to his potential.
