You know the other thing I find reasonably amusing about this scenario, Melbourne lawyered up with a QC representing them, Donaghy rocks up representing himself and tells the judge I know a little about the law. I love that sort of balls out confidence, but I hope it is not misplaced.

Speaking of this secret 'program'. Had a discussion with an ex player in December who mentioned this program specifically. He raved about it but also said they ran the entire Broncos 2020 squad through it and it came up with only 3 'elite' players which Storm would look at based on the data.

I actually really hope Bellamy chooses to either go to the Sharks or he sticks with the Storm. Mainly because i don't like a director of coaching style role; the saying "too many cooks ..." comes to mind. if you hire a head coach that needs someone above him, then IMO you've hired the wrong guy.

p.s. From what I read in one of the many articles on this subject, it appears that Donaghy didn't just leave the Storm because he wanted to move back to Queensland ... apparently the Storm offered him the opportunity to do his job from up here, but he rejected them.

Yeah that is interesting.. I couldn’t see how that would work, although it may have aided the Storm’s planned takeover of Queensland

I actually really hope Bellamy chooses to either go to the Sharks or he sticks with the Storm. Mainly because i don't like a director of coaching style role; the saying "too many cooks ..." comes to mind. if you hire a head coach that needs someone above him, then IMO you've hired the wrong guy.

Maybe but even if the role was just oversee and develop the junior pathways, scouting policies, video and data collection, etc which would leave the head coach to focus purely on the game plan.

Don't get me wrong, i'm all for something like that, i'd even add recruitment/retention to that list (with the head coach having veto power etc) ... but, i wouldn't hire someone like Bellamy in that role, IMO, it just has the potential to undermine the head coach and destabilize the club as a whole.

While i never thought Ikin would make a good CEO, he would be perfect in this type of role IMO. (it may actually be Nolan's role, if it is i'd move him on), you could call the role General Manager of Football Operations (or something along those lines)

It’s much harder to implement a Non-Complete clause against someone like Bellamy. He’s an NRL Coach and has virtually no employment prospects outside working for another NRL club so it would be a manifestly unfair clause if it did exist in his contract and just about any Judge would likely come to the same conclusion in what would probably be the worlds shortest proceedings.

I think that’s a pretty outdated mentality, it’s not 1986 and we’re recruiting out of the local footy carnival these days.

Footballs clubs are far bigger operations these days with millions of dollars in resources at their disposal and someone who’s priority is preparing 17 blokes to play on the weekend at the elite level in today’s game is unlikely to also have the time or even expertise to be across all the other functions that a Football Department needs to achieve on a weekly basis. I think it’s a role that isn’t going away and is likely to only get more and more common and someone like Bellamy would be an incredible acquisition.
