Fifita would be a big loss to this side.

Our left side has suffered a lot since he has been out. He can pull something out of nothing, and we’ve been missing that spark.

We do need to keep him. But not for the type of money Titans are throwing at him. We made that mistake in the past, we can’t keep doing it.

God he can be boneheaded at times, but he was epic on Saturday night and there is honestly so much to like about him as a player. I think at times the stupid stuff stops him getting the credit his best work genuinely deserves, but there is no doubt his heart is absolutely in the right place and you can just see he wants to do well for us.

Yep, this last point is the big one. The Titans are prepared to trash their salary cap to prove a point over their neighbours and the guy getting 100% of the absurd financial benefit of that chest beating exercise is David Fifita.

Have they actually got it in writing and does every offer need to go through the NRL for scrutiny before it can be officially handed to a player?

Titans could just be blowing smoke to get Fifita on the hook (which they have), but when it comes time to actually sign they go with the old "sorry we were planning on x, y and z not being here so our cap isn't exactly in great shape now and we can only offer $1m...

Given Fifita basically isn't being represented by a manager at the moment I hope someone somewhere is providing him with advice for his due diligence before he makes any sort of decision.

Every contract has to be registered with the NRL, so it's not worth anything until it's registered, I'm sure Fifita is being made aware of that. Just because he isn't talking to his Manager, doesn't mean he isn't getting professional advice somewhere.

As for the Titans, they do have some significant guys with contracts ending, so it isn't a case of needing to move them on, they simply won't be re-signed. Just like us, they have a heap of expensive and unproductive talent coming off their books this year and next year again as well.

I have no reason not to the believe the stupid figure of 1.25mill though as Tallis was on both Fox and Triple M over the weekend, and knowing his arrogance, if that $ wasn’t correct, I’m sure he would have come out and said that those figures were incorrect.

If the Titans are offering the $1.25 million, even if a portion of that are third party deals, then I'm pretty sure the Titans have to include those third party deals on the cap since they are the ones offering them.

If Fifita or his management sourced the third party deals themselves, they wouldn't be included in the cap. But I don't think that's the case here.

There's a certain amount of club-sourced third party deals allowed per club, I don't remember the figure but it was somewhere in the few hundred k area. These are cap exempt, the club is also allowed to guarantee those deals and make the payments if the third party does not fulfil their obligations.

Milford may not regularly contribute much on the field, but at least he suits up and gets out there on game day, which is a lot more than can be said for Bird and Kahu - who we basically act as the worlds most expensive health fund for.
