Okay. Personally I think there is a huge difference between "prioritizing" and "ignoring". I'm a huge fan of Fifita, Haas and I think Farmworth and Coates are future stars as well. Perhaps Niu as well. We'll see. I think to recruit at least 2 or 3 really good players in key positions will mean losing at least 1 or 2, possibly 3 of those previously mentioned 4 or 5.
I guess it depends on recruiting rather than retaining as the former is typically more expensive than the latter.
Having said that, Fifita would have been my priority signing over Haas, Farmworth, Coates, Niu and Lodge. Priority over Bird goes without saying. Milford, Boyd and majority of the others were probably re-signed before Fifita was an issue.

None of those five guys need be lost if the club can simply get Boyd, Milf, Joffa and Bird off the books, plus Macca and Kahu. There is a LOT of money wasted in those blokes. The problem for the club is aside from Boyd, Kahu and MAYBE Macca, the other three look to be around at least one more year and then will likely get unearned contract extensions.

Offa was only just re-signed, and all the rest of them have player options for next year besides Kahu and if they haven't taken them up yet, it's all but assured they will. None of those problems are going away before 2022 except Kahu.

May be possible if another club was willing to pick up almost all of the contract money wasted on Milf, Joffa and Bird but that won't happen. Probably not if priority is given to recruiting or keeping a few really good players in key positions. Certainly not if it comes to recruiting such players.
Don't forget getting those guys off the books doesn't automatically free up that much money. Still have to pay for their replacements. Especially in the case of a 5/8, probably not advisable to hire a minimum wage 5/8. With a superstar 1/2 and hooker it might work but then have to pay huge money for them.
No, unless they are willing to stay for way less money than they can make elsewhere, I can't see any way to keep more than 2 or 3 of those 5, if the 3 turn out to be near as good in their respective positions as Fifita and Haas, unless 2 or 3 or all of the spine players are rubbish and on a low salary as a result.
Hasn't Bird, Milford and Oates already taken up their options? Did Bird have an option? I'm sure it was reported shortly before the lockdown or just into it that Milford and Oates had taken up their options. No way Bird will be leaving early unless Broncos are paying the majority of his salary to play elsewhere. He'll be lucky to be on a 1/3 what he is now when he signs his next contract.

Speaking of @Smokin' Joe I think we all deserve to give him a bit of credit. Majority of things he reported came true. I.e. Boyd, Macca etc

people should stop listening to these wankers, I mean journos. We can afford Fifi. We might not be able to give him as much next year as some other clubs but from 2022 onward Bird & Milfords contracts go bye bye. If the club thinks he's worth it he'll pocket one of those pay checks.

He said he isn’t signing until after November 1, due to his contract issues with his manager.
I don’t see this changing, I see him signing with us that very week, though for how long is up in the air, a shorter contract 1-2 years might be a smart move to see what the market is doing after that.
We’ll be paying him $700k or more easily for that season / seasons so he won’t be starving...
