Yep. Despite it being an acute emergency, its actually quite a simple recovery. Its just a huge wound/incision to relieve the pressure internally. Main risk is infection, other than that just time for the wound to heal.

The chat about it being like jyy was/is crazy. Jyy had bone pierce his skin with an infection post op and his none shattered internally with ligaments and tendons involved. Way more complex.

Any operation that requires the wound to remain open for a prolonged period and has nerves involved is not a simple procedure / recovery. And if it ends up that way, purely credit to the surgeon. To say it is quite simple is crazy.

Easy to come in now after things seem to have gone well and be a hindsight genius.

I said it when he got his injury he'd be back in round 20 haha. Search it. Also predicted a few others to the round lol. I work with this stuff.

Also, yes, compared to most surgery it is quite a simple procedure. Complex in the sense of risk of infection afterwards. I work with far more complicated surgeries every single day. This is not on the level of jyy and i think its crazy to even suggest it given jyy had to retire. Just becuase something is rare does not make the surgery automatically complicated.

Unless theres a huge complications he will be back this year. Im predicting panthers or cowboys (round 20-21) but even thats cautious.

- I'm good, was pretty full on
- The club was so good to me and my family
- I knew it was more than a cork after the game
- Very grateful for our doctor, they picked up straight away at 2.30am
- I was lucky to have them with me
- I got rushed to hospital, very lucky to have our medicos with us
- It was briefly discussed about the leg but I got rushed into surgery
- The blood flow was starting to stop going into my leg
- the pain level was definitely up there and then went it got really painful and couldn't move, I called them
- I didn't think of losing my leg as an option until they were checking for a pulse in my foot
- I didn't think about it too much because when I woke up my leg was still there and I didn't lose it, so was happy and lucky to be in this position
- It did cross my mind I might not play again but I had such good support from my mum, my partner, my sister and Adam Walsh and this kept me positive
- Being in the ICU I saw a lot of people who don't get a second chance so I was pretty grateful I still had my leg
- The first two surgeries they opened my leg to relieve pressure and then the next four was to close it up
- I wasn't used to going under anesthetic that long
- Shout out to Doctor Gupta and his team they did a great job
- We are looking at around 8 weeks but will play it by ear
- 8 weeks from now, not from when the surgery was done
- I need to just make sure I get my body right
- It is a huge wound to take care of but we have the best physios here and I'm in good hands
- I'm confident I will get out there again
- No more surgeries should be required
- I didn't feel any pressure to go back out there, that was my own decision
- I'm never not going to play for this team, it was my own decision
- I understand my body so I will know whether I can play or not
- I'm confident I will get back to my best but right now just focused on recovery
- That week in hospital reminded me of the important things in life and so spending time with my family was special
- Next step is getting my leg fully bending, it is kind of stuck at the moment but it will open up
- One of my favourite days was when the boys came and surprised me
- It was so excited to come back here and be around the team again
- I missed the banter and we have a strong bond here and it was so exciting to see them again, we're so tight here
- My issue was really rare in the thigh, sometimes happens in the calf so just one of those things, I've accepted it and its fine

Probably becoming my favourite Bronco. We've really missed having a true strike center/winger that defends like a legend.

He's greatly missed. Having him and Tones on our right was part of the reason teams were always hitting our left flank or going through the middle.

Hopefully he can get back to running in a month and regain some fitness for a finals run. Not holding my breath he'll be back to his old self this season though. Elite players copping bed rest for a couple of weeks can set them back a long way to rebuild the same level of fitness / muscle etc.

Mariner is probably my favourite player now. From being known for being an air head first to how much he's matured, including his attitude/response to this whole injury

The intercept to force golden point in the Raiders game, the match winning try in the Panthers prelim, the defensive awareness to back pedal to give Staggs time to catch up to Wishart and then bundle Coates over in the grand final

Even the little things. Like in the last regular season game where he was sin binned and Patty was getting all worked up, Mariner was calm and asked to let the referee speak. Or in the grand final where Hunt let the kick off bounce, Mariner took the initiative to take the next kick off catch

Refs were also finally starting to recognise how strong his carries and ptbs are and he was getting the 6 again calls he wasn't getting at the start of the year
