Storm coach Craig Bellamy has revealed he was totally unaware young halfback Brodie Croft was in Sydney to meet with Broncos coach Anthony Seibold just two days before their preliminary final game. The Storm are scheduled to play the Roosters at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Saturday, but Croft was spotted on Thursday meeting Seibold in a Sydney cafe on a busy street in the city.

As revealed exclusively by foxsports.com.au, Croft met with Seibold seemingly without the blessing of his current coach, with the Broncos looking to recruit the rising star for 2020.

The rest of the team arrived in Sydney on Thursday night, and Bellamy told media on Friday he was unaware of Croft’s plans. “I knew he was going to Sydney, I didn’t know he was going to meet Anthony Seibold, no,” Bellamy said. “At the end of the day it’s a part of our game, how it goes. I’m not quite sure if they were looking for the attention that they ended up getting but they got it.”

Bellamy suggested the meeting should have taken place after the season, or perhaps somewhere less public to avoid attracting so much attention. “Ideally you’d prefer it not to happen but that’s probably the way the game is these days,” he said. “Perhaps a meeting in Melbourne would have been a little bit more appropriate, no one would have known who they are down there."

“It’s obviously not ideal and at the end of the day it’s the way our game is.” Croft played 22 games for the Storm this year before being dumped in the final rounds so Bellamy could get Jahrome Hughes and Ryan Papenhuyzen into the team. It was a blow for Croft, who has been groomed as Cooper Cronk’s heir apparent for several years at the Storm, making his debut in 2016.

Bellamy said he could understand the 22-year-old’s frustration, and if he wanted a release in the future, the club would consider it.

“That’s a decision that will be made down the track I suppose, it’s been a tough situation for Brodie too,” Bellamy said. “He played (22) games and was left out of the side so I understand where he’s coming from too. Sometimes you’ve got to put yourself in someone else’s shoes and that would have been really hard for him to take.

“To his credit as well, he’s continued to work really hard and he’s been really helpful for the rest of the team as well. At the end of the day if he wants to travel further down that line we’ll sit down and talk about it. We’ll wait until the end of the season to do that, we’ve got a few other things on our plate at the moment.”

I doubt this is the whole truth

@Harry Sack :rofl

Bellamy, surely your not that much of a fool ... of course Seibold wanted the attention (Croft may not have, but seibs definitely did) ... neither of them are from Sydney and Croft wasn't required in Sydney to play the finals match, yet the pick a place for the meeting, that has an extremely good chance that one or both of them would get recognized ...

Oh did a touch nerve there? I was comparing schools and types of education. The Logan bogan is unfortunately a legacy that the area will never shake on account of the two words rhyming.
Maybe but the Logan area has some very respectable schools , you're probably right.

If you are talking Caboolture, sure. Logan is bogan central, I should know I grew up there.

Croft should fit right in to the Broncos if he feels entitled.
And now you're Melbourne correct?

It just occurred to me that this could be our club finally fighting back, after all the fucked up shit they've done to us pushing prices up etc. **** with Bellamy's and Cam's head 2 days before their biggest game. If Roosters get the win I'm crediting Seibold.

Our way at getting back at them is stealing a player they don't want? He's not even in their extended squad, lol. I doubt they care, if anything it's probably a relief for players like Hughes & Papenhuyzen, less worry for them about being shafted if they have a poor game.

Ahhhh well, I could still be right. Interesting to note it was only Seibold and croft there. It's almost as though the coach is the one with the most say regarding recruitment and retention.

Yeah they have some really good schools, issue is, the people that go to those schools tend to not live there. It's a pretty poor socioeconomic suburb, with lots of immigrants and housing commission.

Why does everyone think we signed Brodie Croft because of the photo? They weren't even holding hands. Although, seibold did appear to have an overnight bag so maybe they were having a sleepover.

Logan is a big area, guess your talking logan central

I think the simple facts is that Croft is from an elite grammar school and Smith grew up playing for a Logan Bogan school so I would imagine the culture clash would be enormous between the two. Still I'm sure he'll get on well with Patty despite the healthy rivalry that exists between their respective schools.

Wasn’t there a rumour doing the rounds in Croft’s debut year that he is a but up himself personality wise and that’s where a lot of these rumours stem from?

If that’s still the case, as long as he is winning games for us, he can wear knee length gold chains and tell bouncers at night clubs “don’t you know who the **** I am” for all I care.

This will be unpopular in here but I'm going to say this again to all the braindead idiots in this forum who think Croft is the saviour to our problems. We already have a young inexperienced spine which needs a leader so what does the club and Seibold do, go sign another inexperienced half. Let's be real, Croft has had ample opportunity for over 2 years to show the storm that he belongs in first grade there and he hasn't done that which is why the storm are happy to get rid of him. His defence is not that great and kicking game is not that flash either to those who think he has a superior kicking game. If you want further evidence as to why croft is not that good look up @mitchd90 on twitter who seems to know his stuff

who do you suggest mate?

croft isn’t a world beater, but as long as he keeps Dearden out of the team (so he can develop in QCup) I think he’s probably the best available.

*because apparently the club doesn’t rate SoS
