Does Jake Turpin have a future with the club?

First Kev signs Levi, then in his first game he gives him an unusually long amount of minutes, then Levi goes back to playing almost no role, then Turpin is named captain, and gets hooked after 25 and doesn't return to the field.

From where I'm standing, he's arguably worse than Macca now. He was brilliant in game one and has been pretty shit since.

I'm personally hoping we sign Hodgson from Canberra. He's not perfect but he at least puts his hand up every week. Compare what Turpin offers to Mahoney, Cheese, either of the Brayley's, Cook, Starling.

I guess if we can't sign anyone better he stays on out of desperation but surely he's told to explore his options elsewhere next year and encouraged to not take up his PO.

After tonight, I don't think so. He's been given plenty of chances to make the position his own, and tonight was the second time in recent memory he's been hooked. I don't know why Kev made him captain, probably just to avoid the media whining about TPJ or Lodge being captain, but if anything the extra responsibility just made him play worse. Kevvie's comment in the presser that he just wanted to give Levi more game time was bullshit. He hooked him for poor performance.

We will need to go to market for even a semi decent hooker. If not Brandon Smith than Hodgson or Kurt Mann.

Probably a short term future (1, 2 years at the very most), since there are no other options, but long term none of these current guys should be keeping their positions in the spine. Even Gamble, who might be what the team needs now, might also not be what the Broncos will need once they are competitive again.

I was disappointed in the first half when we had at least 3 play the balls inside the 10m line during a set of 6 and not one time did he line up Haas or TPJ for a crash play from the ruck.

He just kept passing it out to the halves.

It's very difficult for the halves to do anything off slow play the balls close to the line as the defence is basically playing off 0m and will be up in the backline's face as they get the ball.

It has to be up to the dummy half to own the play inside the 10m and create a quick ptb for the backline to do their thing or create a scoring opportunity... or at the very least utilise some decoys around the ruck to hold the defensive line up.

If you have Haas and TPJ in your forward pack you have weapons that can be used close to the try line... it's not a time to try and be cute with backline movements and shit you've been doing at training.

Get your best forwards close to the ruck and utilise some miss matches, and then work off the back of a quick play the ball.

Turpin never runs the ball, no line breaks, no support play, no kicks, just passes and tackles. Any other player can do that. Levi is no better. We should go after Brandon Smith hard. Sign and swap Gamble for Smith if need be.
Maybe the short term solution is switch Turpin and Milford in attack every 3 or so sets? It's clutching at straws a bit though.

He threw a forward pass, got hooked straight after and didn't return. I don't remember the exact minute.
He threw a few before one was called too.

Previous weeks he's been doing the same. I don't think it's a case of the forwards always overrunning either, it's just slow decisions and passing. His form out of DH has gone down pretty rapidly, even just this year. Was a big fan of his but now wondering if he should even be in the 17.

It’s a no from me. We won’t get there with him . Tackles legs on our try line too. Has anyone been tracking paixs progress? I thought he was decent defensively and had some spark but we havnt used him at all. Is he not in kevs plans either?

Such a sad decline. There was a thread named ‘Turpin Is God’ a few years back. Talk about jumping the gun, which is ironic because Turpin never ‘jumps’ out of dummy half. Time for Paix to be given a shot.

If the broncos are looking at Hodgson and If you know turpins never going to be elite or the player you need him to be then why make him captain? It was such a strange selection. When was the last time a captain got hooked after 30 minutes?

Another with a PO in their favour. He was sadly friggin beyond hopeless last night. I think because we signed Reynolds through the week he thought our problems were solved and Adam would somehow have an influence on this game so he could relax. Bizarre form and deserved to be hooked. Started slow and got slower. Yeh,nah he’s not what we need going forward. I’m sorry to say it but Storm where right to get rid of him.

He didn't go well last night but I think only three guys did okay. I think he deserves another chance to make amends. We didn't appear to have much line speed but we did seem to have less time before Manly was on us. I thought only one team was kept back the ten all night.

Was pretty ordinary last night in the short time he was out there, but bizarre to make a guy captain and then gratuitously hook him. Maybe TPJ was the real captain. He was acting that way. And maybe his captain's call showed why isn't quite ready.

But Turps is still better than Macca. Great bloke, but a dead weight. Lest we forget. Careful what you wish for.
