WAYNE Bennett has commenced his tenure as St George Illawarra coach in stunning fashion, the Dragons crushing Sydney Roosters in their first match under the veteran coach.

Dragons pretty much full strength while the Rooters were missing a few key forwards. Paper said Anasta did crap all at lock, don't know why Freddy moved him there given he played his best season in the 5/8th position last year.

Well by the look of the team sheet Bennant basicly went all out to win that one where as Freddy by the looks of it was more interested in trying some new positions / players out... the results not surprising. I'm thinking Bennant wants some confidence built up before season starts, get them to a few wins and "beleiving in themselves" now they are in the new Bennant "era". Pretty smart

Because the Chooks wanted Carney and they were going to play him at 6. They were ready to offer him a deal if the NRL took the soft option and let him back into the game. The "I am happy to play 13" lines from Anasta were a smokescreen - I bet he goes back to 6 now

True. Dragons fans must feel pretty comfortable this season - They're practically guranteed to make the 8 when you've got Wayne Bennent coaching. Not only that, but they have a killer of a backrow and some other great forwards, they should definitely be in the top 6 or so I'd say.

I reckon (even though it's a stretch) Dragons could go all the way this year.

well if bennent wasn't there this season I wouldn't be confident of them going good, because he's there i reckon they could win the premiership,t hey have the team to do it IMO.

To be honest, the Broncos have had the players to do it most years and Bennett only managed the one premiership with them since 2000. Shit happens, and I think the last thing Bennett needs is an expectation that his team will, might or is likely to win the premiership.

Apart from the ref destroying us against the rorters and last years drop of the premiership by Sims, we faded away in the finals (barring 07 injury curse)

It'll be VERY interesting to see if the Dragons have an end of season fade out like the Broncos repeatedly did. That'll answer the question whether it's Bennett....

It depends on how many players he has play Origin because that was Bennett's biggest problem in the last 7 or 8 years in Brisbane. If he only has Cooper he will be sweet but if he loses Creagh, Poore, Young, Cooper, Hornby and Costigan he will have backend issues just like he had with us.
