ST George Illawarra believe the change of regime at the NRL club will attract interest from off-contract superstars Benji Marshall, Darren Lockyer and Karmichael Hunt.

The three marquee names come off contract after this season and all have a connection with new Dragons coach Wayne Bennett.

Bennett is the only coach Lockyer and Hunt have played under at Brisbane, while current Wests Tiger Marshall was a key member of the World Cup-winning New Zealand outfit for which Bennett was an assistant.

I very much doubt Lockyer will ever leave the Broncos, but if he does I will be furious.

If Hunt leaves the Broncos it will be for Money IMO it will be Union or Broncos I think. Why would anyone waste money On Marshall??? Lockyer won't leave you all know it!

locky may leave but it will be for england he's too smart to join anouther nrl club. everyone knows you can have a good career at an nrl club and do a swan song overseas and come back with just as much fan base and respect, langer for one prooved that. On the other hand do a petro and finish up at anouther nrl club for a couple extra bucks and he's really severly devalued his post footy career, the broncs fans are uneasy with him, the penrith fans never got that attached to him anyway being there just 2 years.

Hunt is the name I'm expecting to see leave, and it will be for mega bucks, don't know where but I get a feeling he wants his payday.

oh and some fool will throw money at marshall to keep their physios busy, I've got a feeling it may be the titans actually

Talk for yopurself only champ. When Petero played at Suncorp this year he got a massive cheer, whenever he's out and about in Brissie (like this whole Xmas Holidays) he is swamped by fans everywhere.

Petero is loved in Brisbane, can walk into the leagues club and be treated like a star. Everyone loves him and in fact, this is the first time I've heard someone has suggest otherwise.

Also, Petero is so well respected and loved at the Broncos that he may very well be back, in some capacity, in 2010.

Well, I personally wouldn't say MORE than any other player, but definetly up there as one of the greats and a gentleman of the highest order.

Can't say enough good things about the great man.

There are different circumstances between Lockyer and Petro.. Petro went because Bennett told him he would get a big pay out at the end of his career and he never got it.. What reason would Lockyer have for leaving??

If we miss the finals this year, I can see Locky going to St George otherwise England eventually.

if Locky leave it will be for 1 final pay day in the ESL

Wayne works in mysterious ways. I can honestly see him going to where Wayne is if things go s##t in Brisbane this year.

I really can't see any of those 3 going to the Dragqueens.

If they all go where are they getting the dosh from to cover all 3 of their contracts? They certainly wont come on the cheap...I am guessing upwards of 350K for each of the 3 and that would be ludicrous seeing as they just got Jeremy Smith on a million buck deal and got so decent blokes like Boyd, Cost-a-game, Weyman, Priddis and others.

That and just spent stacks on re-signing Cooper! Also they will have more guys to try and re-sign this year, I am guessing the Creagh would be amongst that and they really cant afford to let him go because he is a future leader and they can build their pack around him

On the wrong side of 30, I'm sure locky would be more attracted by 700,000 big ones in the ESL than another 400,000 contract at the Stains...

Oh don't get me wrong I think he's one of the most outstanding blokes to play at the club however I really think he could of been sent out with amazing hype and fan fare had he stayed up here as a one club player. He just won't get that when / if he finishes up at the panthers. He was one of the greatest but I fear he's faded part of his legend leaving early...not all the legend.... but part of that shine has gone, well at least in my opinion.

Hah. Big Petero got HUGE rounds of boos from our side of the field when the Panfers played here. I have a lot of respect for him too, but when you're in an opposing team's jersey on the field, you're fair game. Of course I would show him nothing but respect off the field, though.

But cheers for that, Hammo. Nice to know you'd clap on a blue if you were a fan of theirs, or perhaps cheer if Civoniceva scored the winning try in a GF against us

That's the Broncos fault for fucking him over. Telling him he was getting x when they were only going to give him y.

Mick; Yeah, I guess some of us like RL not jut the Broncos. Prolly why only myslf and a few others can appriciate the Storm for how good they are.......... [icon_wink

And as Je$ter just said, the Broncos were just as much at fault, as Civo's manager (who Civo sacked after the event). I don't really blame Civo, I blame a combination of the the 3 (throw in our fav CEO as well) and their mis-communication.

I'd rather Civo score against Brisbane in a knock out game, then some NSW wanna be. Civo has paid his dues and I would love nothing more than to see him run around one more season in the Maroon and Gold. I reckon he may come up he, even in a coaching role.

DARREN Lockyer has no desire to join Wayne Bennett and the Dragons in 2010 and will instead ramp up talks with Brisbane in a desperate bid to thrash out a new deal.

A move to St George Illawarra was tossed up by Dragons chief executive Peter Doust yesterday as he unveiled the club's new WIN Jubilee Oval at Kogarah.

Doust said that with Bennett at the helm, he would love to think off-contract superstars such as Lockyer, Karmichael Hunt and Benji Marshall would want to join the Dragons and push for further success in 2010.

"They're all people that we'd like to think would be interested in the Dragons going forward," he said.

But Lockyer's manager Georg Mimis said he had not spoken to the Dragons and Lockyer only wanted to remain in Brisbane.

"We're not speaking to anyone other than the Broncos," Mimis said. "Our goal is to have something nutted out before the season kicks off and there would be no logic at all in Darren leaving Brisbane.

"It's absolutely diabolical for me to think of Darren not being at the Broncos. There would be uproar. I've just got back from holidays and (the Broncos' chief executive) Bruno Cullen returned to work today, so we will be meeting in the next couple of weeks, rolling up our sleeves and seeing where things eventuate."
