Eli Katoa - Head Injury Discussion

No way he can play after that warmup collision, brutal hit to the head. Who is the Tongan doctor? Some important questions to be worked out.

Surgery for a brain bleed is a career ender potentially.
Apparently he didnt even do a HIA test after that hit.

Tongan doctors / trainers are going to be in all sorts of trouble out of this

I guess they can just claim the ol’ ‘id have to watch it back, I need to see the tape.’

Apparently Tonga officials weren't aware of the clash in the warm-up and weren't shown vision of it.

They said if they were, they wouldn't have let Katoa play.

Sounds to me the Tongan officials are (rightly) in panic mode...

Trying to cover their asses.

Which is BS because the first video I saw of it during the Fox coverage had a trainer there after it checking out his eye.

So at worst a trainer was there and saw it... if theyre going with a "we didnt have video footage of it" then thats a total cop out and looking for semantics

Even if he makes a full recovery it may take him a long time to mentally recover. I remember Walshy took more than a season to mentally recover from the Sualii hit and get his confidence back. Katoa will be second guessing himself running into every contact.

Which makes no sense whatsoever and contradicts what Woolf said.

“Tonga coach Kristian Woolf confirmed Eliesa Katoa did not undergo a HIA after a head knock during the warm-up, a decision that has sparked controversy. Woolf defended the decision, stating that the team's experienced doctors were comfortable with the situation after they conducted their standard checks, and that his role was not to question their judgment.”

Trying to cover themselves for the lawsuit that’s brewing.

I honestly believe no check was done with him from the team doctors besides the trainer checking on him when he got hit. They didn’t realise it was shown on tv that’s why they’re panicking. There is no way a doctor checked on him and cleared him. They probably asked him if he’s alright and he said yes and they went on with their day and thought no one saw the hit so they’ll be right .

He's out for the entirety of 2026 according to the storm

Massive blow and completely avoidable, storm should be filthy. I’m guessing they can use his salary as it was a rep game? Guess Tino to storm confirmed.

Yeah it’s crazy that nothing has happened to Tongan management

So the reality is, the Storm currently have a bucket load of money with Paps, NAS and now Katoa off their cap (you would assume). Of course losing Katoa means they lose one of their two actual attacking weapons (Coates being the other one).

Who can they chase though? They are going to have to try and shake someone free but they are also going to be competing with the Bears.

Now obviously, Tino is the big one but he doesn't solve their huge need for an attacking weapon. Who takes Katoa's spot in the back row? It will be really interesting to see what happens with them from here.

Of course, their twos finished in the final of the NSW league, so there is clearly talent there but is that talent ready for the lift to first grade?

There is a lot to ponder for Bellamy.

Tino wouldn't be there until 2027 either.

Might be a bit of a bridging year for storm... same way rorters had one this year.

Evaluate what you've got and who to keep and hit the market for 2027.

They will be competing with bears, but Bellamy beats out Mal in every single way.

Bears will have to throw mammoth money to outbid the draw of storm and Bellamy
