Eli Katoa - Head Injury Discussion

Tino wouldn't be there until 2027 either.

Might be a bit of a bridging year for storm... same way rorters had one this year.

Evaluate what you've got and who to keep and hit the market for 2027.

They will be competing with bears, but Bellamy beats out Mal in every single way.

Bears will have to throw mammoth money to outbid the draw of storm and Bellamy

If Bellamy is there. At what point does he pull the pin if that pin is essentially an almost full rebuild? Munster and Hughes are not getting any younger either.

So the reality is, the Storm currently have a bucket load of money with Paps, NAS and now Katoa off their cap (you would assume). Of course losing Katoa means they lose one of their two actual attacking weapons (Coates being the other one).

Who can they chase though? They are going to have to try and shake someone free but they are also going to be competing with the Bears.

Now obviously, Tino is the big one but he doesn't solve their huge need for an attacking weapon. Who takes Katoa's spot in the back row? It will be really interesting to see what happens with them from here.

Of course, their twos finished in the final of the NSW league, so there is clearly talent there but is that talent ready for the lift to first grade?

There is a lot to ponder for Bellamy.

Cobbo to Storm in 2027?

That's nuts. I really feel for him. I would feel for the Storm too but I just can't and yeah, surely they get his salary off the books.
Really sad. Hope he gets to live a normal life and if and only if it's safe he gets to return to playing.

Kamikamica, Katoa, Asofa Solamona, Pezet and Pappy leave a big hole for Melbourne.

Add Pezet, Kamikamica, and Anderson to that list of outgoings too. They have about 20 players in their 2026 squad at this stage. Have some good young players coming through but they will need to go to market for some forwards and depth across the board.

Storm's new fullback?

I was wondering if Drinkwater exit could be on the cards.

NSW'man looking to head home.
His defence isnt exactly setting the world on fire in Nth Qld, but he is a lot of their attack.

Not sure his defence lives up to Bellamy's requirements although he was originally inline to be Slater's replacement until he did an ACL

Maybe 2026 is the year the Storm finally miss the eight?
I think it might be!! It’s been a tumultuous off season for them. Bellamy’s probably still pulling his hair out. It wouldn’t surprise me if they’re at bottom 8, or miss the 8 completely.

I feel bad for Eli Katoa, what he is going through right now for context is worse than what Te Marie Martin had to deal with, the surgery required for his brain bleed requires skull opening surgery so it's most likely a 2 season out ordell best case, if not retirement.

Such a shame given he looked to establish himself as the best back rower in the game and easily one of Storms best players.

Definitely will change how HIAs are delt with in the future given he passed the check even after the first missed one as well as the second one in the game before the final one which did the damage.

the SMH reporting that the NRL have wrapped up their investigation into this incident.

Woolf, nor his support staff will be sanctioned as they relied on medical advice to clear Katoa to play.

however, several medical staff who cleared Katoa to play after he took a sickening blow to the head during the warm-up will receive heavy sanctions.

the one thing I'm not clear on is how the NRL can sanction anyone for something that happened in a test match, I would have thought that would be under the purview of the International Rugby League

NRL look after medical, judicial and officiating for internationals down here I think.

Jack Hetherington to Melbourne one year deal.

Seems like he's their Katoa replacement.

Hetherington might be Bellamy's greatest accomplishment.

If he can turn Jack into some sort of first grader, then he has solidified himself as the greatest.

If he can't then he might have an aneurism in the box when he's sent off in his first game back after a 6 game suspension.

I can totally see this guy giving away the win to us in R3 when we play those cheat fcuks in that dreaded ground.

The head doctor, assistant doctor and head trainer that allowed Eliesa Katoa to play with repeated head knocks have been suspended from working in rugby league for a minimum of two years.

The proposed penalties are:

a prohibition from being concerned, whether directly or indirectly, with any Club, Team or Player in the NRL Competitions, Representative Competitions or any other competition conducted under the auspices of the NRL or ARLC for a period of no less than 24 months.

Good. ****em.

Katoa could probably sue the shit out of them, ironically. I’m almost certain he would have insisted he wanted to play.

This Doctor wasn’t at the Broncos for the famous Corey Oates broken leg diagnosis?
