End of Origin....Australian 17

Probably the best thing you can do is just let Wayne Bennet choose the Australian team.

Wayne who?

Glad to see you've forgotten his name already. icon_smile

Don't bring him back, he was stale with Brisbane and needed to be replaced. I don't care how well he's doing at St. George-Illawarra. At least he's putting in there. These last few years he was so half arsed about all aspects of the coaching position here and it was an insult to everyone who follows the club to put up with his trash.

He had to go.
Exactly.

Doesn't matter how good his new team is going, because he drove his old team into the ground. St George have a top notch team this year, and they'd more than likely be going just as well with Henjak coaching them as they are with Bennett.

Yeah, Bennett was a horrible coach! In his last 3 years he only won us a grand final, almost got us into another, and got the best out of a team that was missing more than half it's salary cap through injury. Absolutely terrible!

Quite frankly, in most organisations, you find if the staff are getting a bit comfortable their performance tapers and they drift along. Often a change in their supervisor/management can inspire new motivation and quality in their job.

I think that's what Bennett's done for the Dragons. Their game plan is almost exactly the same as the one the Broncos used in his last decade there. Nothing dynamic or ground breaking about it, but it's working to perfection because the players themselves think it's new and are working towards it with commitment.

Because the Broncos got so used to it they didn't generally put any heart or passion into it. Why would they? They know what to do, where's the excitement?

Unfortunately for Henjak he pretty much repeated the same old same old, and so the guys that have been there done that are giving the same old same old.

The other way to motivate such lethargy is to threaten sackings.
The Broncos have done that to good effect in the last fortnight.

Perfect. Well said Coxy.

Believe it or not, I agree 100%

Drove his old team to the ground? LOL. We were 1 knock on away from a GF appearance last year!
he did. lets face it, we got very lucky in 2006. we hit our straps at the right time, and the other big teams completely dropped the ball at the same time.

since 2000 the Broncos have been going downhill. yes, we still made the finals, but in a competition where sometimes over half the competition make the finals, thats really not an achievement. a few years there im sure we made the finals having lost more games than we won during the season for crying out loud.

bennetts player selections were ridiculous, his recruitment was bordering on idiotic, and his gameplan was severely outdated. he was ruining the Broncos.

That's nice :P

Actually I swear Bennett has said it better than anyone. "If you always do what you always did, then you'll always get what you always got".

I'm glad to see someone finally understands. We have been mediocre at best since the turn of the millenium. The Brisbane Broncos from their conception to that time were the real form of the competition. They had it downpat.

After the said year, they really came back to the pack and have been very average since. I for one couldn't believe it was the same club I was watching for the duration of my childhood. It almost became repulsive to watch and has been on a similar level since.

It just hasn't been good enough.

Well said Benny. That's exactly what you did.

Pity we didn't listen to you and have you out on your arse earlier.

I think in a competition which is so incredibly even due to a low salary cap, which commonly sees reigning premier miss the finals the very next year, consistently making the finals is a very underrated achievement.

Oh but ronny, any idiot could coach the orsm Broncos teams we've had and make the top 8...even Anonymous Person.

In all seriousness, there are teams that play finals every year that don't deserve to, on form. The top 8 does reward some mediocre teams.

eg, Broncos of 2007....yes, injury destroyed us, but to even be in the finals was a joke, and it showed being beaten 40-0 in our only finals appaerance.

I'd like to see you get the gig if Henjak gets boned Coxy.

Anony can be your assistant.

but that's the thing, as easy as it is to make the finals their is still no other team who has made the finals every year since 2000. Which highlights just how close this competition is and how big of an achievement it is to make them every year (whilst being raped by origin each year).

Oh definitely, not arguing there. But if the NRL hadn't kept an 8 team finals series and went with the traditional 5 teams, then that record wouldn't be intact, obviously.

Moot point as we'll always have 8 teams because it ensures 9 games in the finals series vs 6 in the 5 team format.
