FOOTBALL English Premier League 23/24 Discussion

Hey, I do! I haven't followed them too closely recently but I started supporting them back in the Alan Shearer days. Good to see them at the top of the table for a change!
I'm just hating on anyone Arsenal don't beat...

Man United take on City next..

It's been a good start to the resumption of the PL for United, but they haven't quite clicked into gear yet and I can't see that happening against City.

Bruno needs to pull his finger out and start playing at his best.

I would be happy with a draw, but I'm expecting a loss.

Martinez and Dalot will be back for City... they haven't started since the world cup.

Martial has started slowly, but he's basically starting his season now having been injured for basically the whole start of the year and then not playing in the world cup.

Rashford has been doing some heavy lifting in the goal scoring department thankfully

Will be cheering for Utd v City, strange feeling.

I hope Arsenal wins it, been nearly 20 years, which is crazy in itself because I remember them stomping in the early 2000's.

Liverpool v Brentford

It doesn't lead directly to a goal. There was a rule change in early 2021 that if a goal is scored and there was an accidental handball in the build-up, it will only be taken off the attacking team if it led directly to a goal. In this case, can't say it didn't.

They do still get a few of these wrong, though.

From my understanding, VAR protocol also says that they can only overturn a decision if there is a clear and obvious error. It wasn't very clear that it did in fact touch his hand and the fact that they looked at it so many times says to me that it wasn't clear and obvious to them either.

It went off Mee's hand into Konate and deflected into the goal.

Might not have been obvious but the ball changed direction haha that should be enough to overturn it.

I've watched that replay over and over again, I can't see the ball changing direction. Even if it does, it's extremely minuscule and doesn't change the outcome of what happened. When you look at the side-on angle, the ball was hitting Konate's knee and deflecting towards goal regardless. The handball doesn't cause the deflection.

I've also watched it frame by frame when the ball brushes Mee's hand and there's nothing to suggest handball. There's no flick of the wrist/fingers, there's no clear impact on the ball, none of the defenders even protest. I don't see how the VAR could overturn it.

Good win by Man United in the 3rd of the FA Cup.

One thing is clear, if Rashford goes down injured, Man United are fucked. Completely fucked. They need another quality player up front, they need more depth there. Once again, he had a great game and played a key role in the win setting up two goals and scoring one himself.

Another quality stuff up in the Liverpool vs Wolves game that cost Wolves a victory. How on earth was that even close to being offside.

Yeah, can't understand that.

On another note, we're cooked.

There certainley looks to be a spark missing from Liverpool. Their goals were quality today tbf, both terrific finishes ( Salah tbf would have been give offside for his goal i reckon if he was playing in Wolves colours ). When i saw we had made 9 changes to our side i was fearing the worst, but we didnt pretty well considering.

The offside against Wolves, it wasn't Toti they ruled offside. It was Nunes coming from an offside position after the corner.

Nunes takes the corner and when Hwang-Hee-Chan heads the ball backwards, that's the moment they're saying Nunes was offside.

There was no definitive angle to show he was offside so the protocol there is to go with the on-field decision.

The flag being raised was a delayed call.

The lack of clarification of the decision at the time needs to be addressed.

Clearly, the grubby six need to invest in some random bloke with a mobile phone to do their VAR camera work to show they got it totally wrong. You can clearly see when Hwang heads the ball to Nunes, he is miles onside.

Also, Salah was offside for the goal he scored.

Even though Toti's header put him onside as the play continued, Salah was still active in the play so it should have been flagged. Sadly though, this law can be left open to interpretation so for some bizarre reason they can say Salah wasnt active in the first place, which is just bizarre to me when he is running behind the defender.

On a side note Mike Dean should in no way be allowed to officiate at any level on this game seeing as he is a died in the wool Livepool supporter. I still dont believe for a single second a top level European giant has a crucial area of the stadium not covered by a camera. Something smells fishy to me.

Man United reportedly agreed to a loan deal for Weghorst for the remainder of the season. Howver, Besiktas have yet to agree to it. Seems like they want compensation.

Wouldn't be a bad pickup if they get him. He'll provide us with that extra attacking threat up front and take some pressure off Rashford. Martial is just too hit and miss.

This surely means Man United aren't bringing Depay back to the club. His salary demands were always going to be an issue.

Apparently Man United have a bigger plan to lure Kane to the club. I can't see it happening, not until there's new owners of the club and they can sort out the financial situation.
