He was almost 3 times over on alcohol and also failed the roadside drug test.

Ezra getting more than him will be scapegoating the bronco and appeasing the Sydney circle jerk, because the NRL's precedent is set.

A Sydney criminal defence lawyer reckons the ruling will be appealed because of how poor it was in their eyes.

For what he was charged with and taking into account it's his first offence, that was a very standard punishment. I don't see it being appealed.

Sounds like a quote for hire and just trying to get his name inserted into media cycle... bloke is from Sydney and wouldn't give two shits about what's happening in Qld... just a promotional tour

Thats a thing though when you play for a club like the Broncos. Its a bigger, more high profile club than the Dogs or the Sharks, so more media attention comes with being a Broncos player than those 2 clubs. Regardless of if he got a light sentence or not, he's going to get targeted because of who he plays for. Its not fair in that regard.

It is their job to do that. We all know how it goes though. Despite me thinking they do need to go really tough on him, if its out of line with what others have had in a big way, we need to take some legal action to keep them honest.

It annoys me how the opposition fans are carrying on like Mam has been treated differently because he’s a Broncos player. It’s pretty clear the QLD Courts system needs an overhaul and to punish people properly. Mam will get more punishment than the regular person anyway. He’ll get smashed by the club and NRL with fines and he’s also gonna lose a shit ton of endorsements and what not.

What is the penalty for driving on the wrong side of the road?

Just wondering if he got a lighter punishment because he was coked up and had a crash.

Besides the court fine, he also got an infringement notice for failing to maintain control of a vehicle - the driving on the wrong side of the road bit.

From memory the prescribed penalty for that is about $400 odd.

Ironically if he didn’t crash and had failed to wear his seatbelt, he’d have got a larger fine than our criminal justice system gave him.

The LNP are going to fix that though…

how do you get a license suspension when you are unlicensed in the first place? Bit of a joke really.

Surely QLD legal system isnt that incompetent.

It’s a court ordered disqualification, not a suspension.

The difference is before yesterday he could have walked into any TMR office and renewed his licence and day he liked (only his idiocy / arrogance prevented him doing that).

Now he can’t renew it for 6 months and THEN he has to go into a TMR and re-apply for it, a surprisingly large number of “unlicenced” drivers, forget that bit and the circle begins again…

He's basically been fined for $850, the suspended from driving thing, he doesn't even hold a license.

The NRL will probably hit him harder than the legal system just did. Let's be serious here for a second.

He is disqualified from holding, or obtaining a driver licence.

Not a licence suspension, it's a disqualification from driving.

The main difference between a license suspension and a license disqualification is who imposes the penalty and how long the driver is unable to drive:
License suspension
The police or Qld Trans impose a suspension for a set period of time. A suspension can be for a number of reasons, including unpaid fines, excessive demerit points, or speeding. Once the suspension period ends, the license is automatically reinstated.
License disqualification
A court imposes a disqualification as part of a sentence for a traffic offense. A disqualification means the driver is not allowed to drive or apply for a new license for a set period of time. The court must reinstate the license after the disqualification period ends.
A disqualification is more serious than a suspension and can have more severe consequences. For example, driving while disqualified can result in imprisonment.
In Queensland, a driver convicted of driving while suspended or disqualified may face additional penalties, including:
A minimum of two years disqualification, plus up to five additional years
A fine of over $6,000
Up to 18 months in prison

Court’s don’t reinstate licences after the disqualification period ends. That court order effectively ‘ends’ that licence.

One is required to re-attend TMR at the conclusion of that disqualification period and re-apply for a new licence.
