PLAYER Ezra Mam

Too early for this discussion, it’s Round 1 I know… buuuuuttttt….
If everyone keeps performing the same or better, we get Mozer back on the bench instead of Daddy’s special little boy, where does Ezra fit in?

Hunt to 9 won’t work because Cory has been tearing it up for 9 weeks. Hunt has been a revelation at 6.
We see Mozer as the future and have him at 14 or 9…

Where does Ezra fit???

Mozer is carrying an injury, so I would think Ezra has the jump on him, even for that reason alone.

At the moment I’d have him on the bench and coming on for either a forward or Paix (with Hunt moving to 9). Ideally Paix can handle 80 and we have all of Hunt, Walsh, Arey, Mam, Paix on the field at once.

Well, I’m sure our forwards won’t struggle too hard if we rob them of Piakru’s 1 minute stints off the bench.

Maybe we can instead give Ezra the 17 and let him roam off the bench. We had Paix, Billy, Hunt, Reyno all on at once at the end of the game so just make Ezra do whatever it was Billy was doing at that stage.

we get Mozer back on the bench
Mozer could be out for the season potentially. No one really knows for sure yet and it's very up in the air.

Even if he is available late in the season, he's still a borderline rookie and will be heavily underdone. Not exactly ideal for a finals campaign.

Ezra will 100% be slotted in somewhere. Injuries are inevitable sadly.

This is what I meant by pessimism. Ezra is a brilliant player. He was Dally M 5/8th in 2023 and almost the Churchill medalist. Ideally we can squeeze both Hunt and Mam into the team.
I think a lot of people are taking last years form and basing their opinions on a lot of the players.

Whatever it was that happened made a lot of our players fall of a cliff.

Cobbos form the other night shows how easy it is to turn round.

Unless hooker is an absolute disaster, I just can’t see a good coach changing their halves mid season if they’re clicking - no matter who’s waiting in the wings.
Maybe Piakura is the one who drops off for Mam if he remains on the pine for 70.

Yep. Selwyn, though, is still a week to week proposition.

Selwyn looks a lot fitter but he’s also been moved back wing where he is far better suited at this stage

For me Mam is a 17 coming in depending if Mozer is the 14.

Roaming lock is the role for him, but lets see more of our double 7 halves combo first yet.

And where in the line does he defend ?
The middle, not saying he does a big stint though, and yes I can already see you bringing up his defence as a point against that but it is harder to defend on the edge than the middle, it's just the workload is much higher in the middle so you mitigate that with less mins and bring him in when there is more fatigue in the game, so it brings down the difficulty in defence.

A Badel article saying that Mam could be fast tracked back into the NRL side. He's available for selection for our round 10 match against Souths

Madge said:

“I can’t be happier with Ezra,” Maguire said.

“He is very aware of what he went through and he wants to come back ready to go.”

Madge on Mam's return to the NRL side:

“It all depends on where we are at that stage,” he said.

“I will see how the team is going.

“If we are performing well it might change things, but Ezra has fallen into what we are doing here and it’s all about performance.

“He has been doing a fair bit of training, so his match fitness wouldn’t be too far away (from playing NRL).”

Madge on Mam's "exile" from the NRL side:
“He is working outside of rugby league,” Maguire said.

“Ezra is doing a bit of a trade in the background and continually working on himself which is good to see.

“It all depends on where we are at as a team, but Ezra is doing a heap of extras and he’s in good shape.

“He is working on parts of his game.”

Patty Said:

“It would be pretty special to see him back,” Carrigan said.

“He made a mistake and he owned it, there’s no sugarcoating it, but as a person and having the opportunity to grow with him since he came into the club at 17, I know what this club means to him.

“He wants to be a role model for young kids and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander kids.

“I know he would have been hurting, he has learnt some lessons, but I stand beside him and am really excited for him to come back and do his thing again.

“Hopefully he puts himself back in the fray and in a position to be selected again.

“’Ez’ has been training bloody hard here, so if he gets the opportunity to come back in when he does, I’m sure he will be ready.”

A motivated Ezra would be phenomenal given how clunky and slow we look in attack. His support play alone would be such a nice injection, we are seriously lacking in that department and he would no doubt help unlock Walsh too.

We are missing him on that left side.

One of Hunt's strengths is his running game but for whatever reason he hasn't been using it and he's not gelling with our left side that well. You need a running threat in the halves otherwise you're just easy pickings for the defence.

Bring Ezra straight in when he's available.
