Folau isn't on 45ok yet but he will be in 2 years and yes he is well and truly worth it. You won't get any bad press from Folau and he will play his heart out for us every game. Folau is going to keep the fans coming to games.

Yep. He's a crowd pleaser and exciting player, he's extremely valuable to the team - This kid has it all. He is our Lote Tuqiri but better!!

I wouldn't be too sure about him being a better player then Tuqiri.

Why not? At the rate he is going, there's no reason why he'll turn out better than Tuqiri...[/quote:3hqoukrl]

Well, we never saw what Tuqiri could have turned out to be, but as far as 2 athletes go, Tuqiri is physically better.

Okay, are we actually discussing if purchasing possibly one of the greatest players of the next 10 years was a good idea?

The didn't buy him only to help win us matches, but to also draw crowds. And if he scores 1 or 3 tries a game, touches the ball once or 20 times a game - the guy is going to bring fans to the games, sell merchandise and attract sponsors, so yeah I'd definitely say he's worth it from the club's point of view.

"Physically better"? I have NFI what you mean, but physically Izzy is a farking machine... I'm just pissed we never saw Lote at his peak in league. Wasted in union, really - but I think Folau could clearly be thought of now as being just as good as Lote ever was in the NRL.

Tryscoring machine? Tick.
Premiership? Tick.
Origin? Tick.
Kangaroos? Tick.

Yeah I dunno Mick. One thing Lote had that Folau didn't was the ability to score long range tries off his own back. I remember a brilliant one against the Dogs in 2001 where he took the ball 10 out from his own line, palmed off El Masri at least once, maybe twice and ran the length of the field to score.

I haven't seen Folau do anything like that yet. He's dynamite within 20 metres of the tryline but he doesn't have much impact away from there.

They are very different styles of players too - there's no denying that. Folau doesn't have Lote's ability to score long range tries (YET), but Lote also couldn't jump approx 17.63 metres in the air to catch a bomb and score a try!

Yeah, but that's why I don't get why you're comparing them. You might as well compare Folau to Webcke.

Folau I think was fine, the one I didn't agree with was Michaels, at least after hurtign his knee.

I would have used that to try and keep either Hannant or Kemp.

Agree. Kemp definitely. We had no chance of keeping Hannant. He was offered close to $300K a year by the Dogs, and Michaels certainly isn't on that.

Kemp would've stayed if he'd got a half decent offer.

It was a bit weak almost of Cullen to still sign Michaels. I know there's guilt or pity for him being injured and off contract, but ****, a strong CEO would say it's not a good investment spending big bucks on a player that might never be the same again.

I said he was worth every cent when we signed him and my opinion hasn't changed. Thrilled he plays for us.

What i mean by physically better is that Tuqiri was and is clearly a lot quicker then Folau will ever be, there wouldn't be much difference in their vertical leap, Folau is stronger though, but Tuqiri has better footwork then Folau too.

Honestly, 2009 Tuqiri doesn't excite me. He looks like he's packed on bulk and lost plenty of speed and agility. Hardly seems to do anything in ruggeroid.

Union ruined him, just like they did a lot of other outside backs in the Eddie Jones era where they forced them to pack on the kgs resulting in a loss of speed and agility.

Folau made 104 metres in the 1st game and 23 tackles. (havent checked the stats for rd 2)

if he can keep that up each week add in a try or 2, he is worth every cent. dont forget he is still young and is going to get better.

The other reason NOT to compare Tuqiri and Folau is the game itself is different today - teams play a lot more to score tries in the corners from kicks - this was so much the norm back in Lote's day; so we really aren't going to know if he was/is any good at it - same as the way the game is played now there is not so many opportunities to score long-range tries, therefore we can't comment on Izzy's ability to do it. They both were the best in their day at doing what their team requires of them.

I think it was worth buying him, He has turned out as a good edition to the team. He scored the First try in the first game and the First try for the Broncos in the second game. So, If Broncos had the money, they did the right thing in buying Folau.
