I like it, but think if a player you want to pick up has played, you should be able to pick them up if you can spare an unused squad member.
If you are watching a game and can see that Tautau Moga is worth drafting, you shouldnt have to wait a couple of days for everyone to clue in.
I see, interesting. But clearly you couldnt then put him in ur top 17 to score points right?
I like it, but i can see it totally negating the point of having the free agent bid system too. ppl will just get the players they want before the round is over isntead of waiting til the week to do it via auction
No, you couldn't play them in your team that round if they had already played or started to play for that round. However, if I owned Isaac De Gois, and found out he was injured in warm ups, if the game hasn't kicked off, I reckon I should be allowed to pick up John Morris and immediately insert him into my fantasy line up.
As for the free agent bid system, I don't actually know how it works? NFL has waivers, which I think kinda suck, but that's obviously not a part of NRL? I'd be interested to know how the bidding system is supposed to work.
It's just tactics IMO. In NFL fantasy I often left a free space on my roster into the lockout so I could take advantage of injuries and new players.
I had a think about this. I dont like the idea of being able to sign a player on a weekend that has already played. It takes out the excitement of the free agent system, would be no point having it if that was the case. However, i have built in the funtionality so if you owned De gois, and he got injured before the game starts, you could pick up john morris, and play him immediately. As long as both players have not yet played, they can be traded.
The free agent system is something i found after a lot of research. Basically u get 100 points for the year. Each week, you enter a silent auction for the players you want. You might want to get say, Adam Reynolds. You know he will be a popular choice that week, so you choose to bid 5 points on him. Then, say coxy also wants him, he bids 4 points. Neither of you know how many points the other has bids, thats where the strategy comes into it.. how many ppl want this guy? is 5 enough ? etc. player with the highest bid at the time of trades processing, wins the trade. After that, all trades are first in, first served until the completion of the round
I actually really like that free agent bidding idea. I will say though that I do find your use of the word trading to be slightly confusing. I normally associate trading as being with other teams. I.e. Broncospwn will give Meat77 Dallas Johnson in exchange for Steve Michaels. I take it those sorts of trades are still in the game? You seem to be using it more in a sense of free agency activity and picking up and dumping players. Pedantic, I know!
100 points is an interesting number. I think it may be too high, but on the other hand the extremeness of bidding so high really does disadvantage you against the other teams. Still, if you were to bid 80% (i.e. 80 points), you could theoretically win 20 other auctions on players that might not be hot commodities but still players you'd like to secure. That's a lot. On the other hand, if you had a bid limit of say, 10, then bidding 80% of your points means you can only win 2 more players at most. The latter, IMO, seems more tactically restrictive, which is what I think you want to achieve with such a system?
Do you want us to point out possible ways to exploit the rules as well, or should I save it for next year when I'm playing for real?
