Favourite Premiership season

Excellent post mrslong, it's alarming when you look back and recall the likes of Lockyer, Price and Civo were said to be on their last legs at Origin before Game 2. Seriously for any Queensland fan - watch that game. It's probably the best Queensland performance I've seen.

Still you did a great job capturing the emotion of the season.

2006 for me.

I didn't start really getting into rugby league until 1998 (when I was eight!), and that's when I began supporting the Broncos, but I can hardly remember anything from that season other than cheering on the team in the grand final.

In 2000 I went to my first Broncos game, got my first Broncos jersey, but once, I think I was too young to fully appreciate winning a premiership.

2006 on the other hand, I remember well. There are just so many reasons why it was awesome. Webcke's last game, the fact that we were massive underdogs going into the GF, the win over the Bulldogs to get there, smashing the Knights, etc. It was also the first grand final I went to, and I really had to take a leak in that second half, but I held on throughout and boy was it worth it! I'll never forget when Lockyer potted that field goal, I was still worried the Storm would come back, but deep down I knew we had it. Such a sweet, sweet victory. The fact we beat those whinging, cheating, dirty buggers made it even better.
I pretty much word for word agree with this. I also started watching league when I was 8 and did watch the 2000 grand final but way was too young to really appreciate what it meant. 2006 was freaking sweet, Berrigan, Hodges and Lockyer, perhaps my 3 favourite ever players.

93 for me, we had a great side . We went to another level in that finals series and destroyed some very good footy sides and coming from 5th we had to beat all comers.

2000, we were just so dominate that year and we had so many class players, was awesome to watch.

2006 was awesome to experience...but in rewatching I realised it was a fairly lackluster season for the most part.

Its hard to go past the 1992 & 1993 premierships purely because they marked the Broncos' arrival as a great RL club .... The Broncos were so dominant in 92, going 18-4 through the regular season and never losing consecutive games. That first premiership had a special feel about too because the whole buildup to that season after the disappointment of 91 had an air of "this is our year" about it, esp with Glen Lazarus' arrival.

1993 was an awesome achievement because the Broncos had to snap out of an early season bout of complacency and then after a couple of late season losses to end the reg season, they had to come from 5th to win it all. THey also had to do it without Glen Lazarus who injured his ankle. Then they found themselves 6-16 down in the prelim final against Canterbury and had to dig deep in the second half. St George really fancied their chances of beating Brisbane in the GF but Brisbane really suffocated them in that decider. I'll always remember Kelvin Giles in tears during an interview after that game because he was so proud of the physical and emotional challenge the team had overcome to come from 5th and win it all.

To cut to the chase, I disagree with your sentiments about the 2000 win to an extent. Sure Brisbane was loaded with talent but I don;t think that group or Wayne Bennet recieved the amount of credit they deserved for that one. They won that competition just one season after the retirement of Alan Langer. That was a massive accomplishment imo because they had to find a new style of game that suited their new group and to do that and win it all in the one season was quite amazing.

To me 2006 felt a bit like the Broncos had robbed the bank. It almost had a feel that winning the GF was just a beautiful bonus after a very courageous comeback from that horrible mid season slump. Melbourne were the best team for most of that season but Brisbane got hot at the right time and robbed the bank.

2006 for me, with that epic prelim against the dogs in Sydney and the magnificent win against a highly favourites Melbourne.
Berro was the player of the finals IMO. That try against the Dogs on his head and his work during the final where he pretty much eliminated the Storm's biggest threat, was fantastic.

Yeah, what he said ^^^^ [icon_lol1.

I watched the match back a few weeks ago and even looked for the pass because I was also skeptical as AP was, in replay the pass was fine out of the hands and that's all that matters.

you cant throw a pass that short backwards and have it 'float' half a metre forward. it was clearly a forward pass. not that it matters.

AP - Might be worth checking the match out again, they show a side on angle that clears the pass.

I had the exact same doubts as you watching the highlights package, but the side on clears it no problem.

That pass to Berro was OK - trust me I've seen that game a million times.

For those who know physics - it is possibly to throw a pass backwards and have it 'float' forwards, though those are not the technical terms - when the player who throws the pass is running.

As long as the forward speed of the player passing the ball is higher than the forward speed of the ball, the pass is technically backwards. icon_thumbs_u

This muppet is forever trying to take the gloss off anything the broncos have done.
