Finally, our pack is looking the goods

Apart from the Manly game, Glenn has been solid all year. He's one of those journeymen that squads need to fill out numbers and keep cap compliant. He's solid without setting the world alight.

How would Su'a go as lock, or Gillett? Just think TPJ should stay second row and so one of them has to move to 13 in order to facilitate that.

That bench is good and in 2 years time one of Flegler or Carrigan can replace Glenn, with Fifita eventually taking the 17 (I'd use Taga or Staggs on the bench until then, I didn't think Mago offered more than Taga could/has).
Our right side defense has become a joke since Gillo has been on the sidelines. Of course, having Thaiday on that side of the ruck, the diminutive Kodi next to him, and Isaako on the wing is also not helping Su'a, who has been pretty good given the circumstances.

That said, I agree TPJ should stay in the backrow left edge, and I do believe Gillo could be a perfect lock for us too, leaving Su'a to make the right edge his domain.
With players fit, this would be my forwards composition, allowing for a bigger body (Ofa) to start in the prop rotation instead of McGuire:

8- Lodge
9- Macca
10- Ofa
11- TPJ
12- Su'a
13- Gillo

14- Glenn (can function as the utility)
15- McGuire
16- Haas
17- Carrigan/Flegler/Fifita/etc... (slowly blooding our young guys)

I disagree with Gillett anywhere but on the edge. He can be too damaging in attack and always shores up our right hand side in defence to be anywhere else - all he needs is a half/5/8 who can work with him to use those passing skills and hole running, plus he does have a reasonable short kick in him as well.

For mine, his talent and skill is totally wasted in the middle.

Gillett and TPJ as our edge forwards are a killer combination, with Offa at lock and Moose at prop where he really belongs

Been awhile since I've seen Gillett's attacking brilliance. He is a tackling machine with good skills , could be a great lock. This is why i find bird useless to our needs.

He doesn't hit holes anymore. Tackling machine though.

Agree our forward pack is finally looking legit. So with McGuire on his way back is Bird resigned to be an expensive bench utility? If Kahu has a solid return at centre is he picked there before Bird? If we win a few more games with Knic at 7 then I can’t see Bird taking that spot again? Does Bird even get a run if Staggs has another good performance this week? I wonder if Bird can maintain a positive attitude if he is told that playing from the bench is best for the team?

If I were within the club and had Bennett's ear, no chance Bird becomes a bench player. Having that much cap space sitting on the bench playing 40 minutes is just not acceptable.

Either Bird gets his shit together and plays good enough to justify starting in the 7, or he is on the next plane back to Sydney.

If only either of those two options where a chance. Bird had a poor 2017. Other clubs would smell blood in the water and leave us paying the bulk of his wage still.

From what I have read, that's the role Bennett wants Gillo to play. Pity. His attacking skills are 1st rate. Probably yet another good argument for a quality half back - to use Gillo on that right edge. He shits all over Cordner

What is it with the Broncos signing injured players who are already around 30 on huge contracts? Seems bloody stupid to me... Bet they are paying him a small fortune too.

It depends how much he is on but unless it's for cheap, I just don't get it at all. He is already past his best.
