POST GAME [Finals Week 1, 2023] Broncos vs Storm

just on the Melbourne winning the scrum against the feed. was that even a legal play. because Paps, who packed in at prop struck at the ball with his foot. i didn't think you could do that from the prop position
You can't.

Just finished the replay...
-Our aggression totally threw them off their game
- staggs and herbie swap seems like a genius move, was the next most effective thing that upset the storms rhythm
- staggs try was awesome, great strength
- reyno definitely had something to do with Coates losing it as he was scoring, pulling the arm or something. Great play
- Our attack seems a bit wonky when the defence rushes up, especially when we go left
- The high kick to cobbo seems to be a bit of a weakness for us. And tonight was munster/hughes, the chin is another level
- tragic for paps. The slowmo looks bad for him. Why tf was he in the middle defence anyway, 10 mins to go and 20 points down
- Reynolds is such an amazing buy. South's fans must (rightly) feel so dirty right now.

I have some drunkenly scribbled player rankings I might post tomorrow, but i don't want to make this post (even more) huge.

I do have a couple of choice Corey Parker quotes though :

"This game will be made of moments, and we've had a couple, and that was one."

"What a battle on this left edge, Coates vs cobbo, two big......athletic.................wingers..(1.5 seconds of silence follows)"

"Melbourne really feel like they are getting the short end of the stick" ( as he says 'stick', the penalty count comes up, showing a 4-5 penalty lead to the storm).

have to highlight this, but that first scuffle with Carrigan, I have never seen Haas jump in to defend someone more than that, completely different to how it went when he was playing for NSW, it's a shame he wasn't eligible for Qld by mare months you know he wished he could.

instincts don't lie.

I do wonder how Staggs, Haas and Reyno feel about the line of the team song about driving the Blues insane haha

PreWhat a game? Very very proud of the boys. Everyone of them turned up & WITH LASER FOCUSED ATTENTION. Solid solid finals effort.

We were in those grubs face from the get go from our middle led by Payne & Patty especially. That in the face into Grant from Patty is absolute GOLD.

Kevvie has rapidly built our dynasty. We’re the premiers for 2023 & beyond. Period!

Fox commentary was horrendous as usual. Idiot prick Parker cant decide whether to go after us or to say something good about us. In addition to that, he contradicts himself as to if we are the best or the 2nd best defensive side. Salty fucker can get fucked with his bipolar views.
We are the premiers!

Just watching the mini, to be fair to Grant in that third tacke scuffle, he was just standing there minding his own business and Pat gave him a shove after Munster yanked his collar. He did go on with it though so he did deserve to it in the end.

Arthars' hit on Meaney was a lovely bit of work. Used Meaney's own momentum, just planted himself and then planted Meaney. Also scrambled back in cover straight away as well - and that's the type of thing I think Kevvie is seeing and the reason he's there instead of Oates.

Flegs' hit on Warbick was so good too, but I noticed he looked up at the ref straight away, not sure if he was expecting the standard hit him too hard penalty...

That first twenty minutes really set the tone of the whole game. Storm had no answers, and I think they were stunned we came out and absolutely gave it to them.

It is horrible when the other team is more aggressive, fitter and disrupt your game plan. You all of a sudden have to deal with new information, lines and shapes you’re not used to seeing ie; Staggs & Herbie switching.
It f*cks your timing and rhythm.

That was brutal. We got in their face from the start and didn't let up for the whole 80. Absolutely bullied those cheating *****. Was glorious watching Bellamy lose his shit and then sit there like a broken man 😂

Our input (defensive effort and attack) really messed with their output in both areas. Eventually, you get frustrated, compound your mistakes because you’re in your own head. Trying to fight off an Anaconda while it’s slowly crushing you.
Lastly…..
SUCKED IN MELBOURNE!! (Not you, Paps. That is horrible to see)

I rate Atkins as a ref, probably the best ref in my eyes. Not just because we won but his interpretations in the past have led me to think that way about him as an official.
