POST GAME [Finals Week 1, 2023] Broncos vs Storm

There was a play that Hughes put on to drop the ball under for Katoa, and then Hughes accelerates further to the right to have the defender follow him opening space for the steaming Katoa. Well, our defense read that and dealt with it on the try line.
A few sets later Patrick Carrigan puts on the same play for Palasia! Was a bit of an "anything you can do..." moment for me. A front-rower serving up a challenge to a half.

Arthars only ran for 62m compared to all the other backs who were over 100. Are we sure he should have been picked over Oates?

Haas - 180m, 77 PC metres
Carrigan -193m, 85 PC metres!
Hetherington - 140m
Palasia - 153m - he really came into his own in that second half

They kicked to the opposite wing all night .
How many carries did he do ?
When he did run the ball back he beat a man[ Like he can .] and gained 5 metres .

Arthars can beat a man with foot work .
I have seen him make half breaks all season . Him and Piakura have twinkle toes .
Arthars was also great defensively and made. No errors. Oates would have had a couple knock ons.

I called it earlier that you don't even watch games. Now I have proof that you don't even know the games are on half the time.

He is alright. Left it till the final minute to kick the 40/20. Billy was probably the better of the two. Kicked a nice ball deep also looking for a 40/20, and put in a nice kick for a dropout earlier in the match. Also made a ton of brave tackles early to take the sting out of the game. Probably only one major error where Riki overran a pass and Billy passed it forward due to autopilot brain-fart.
I reckon that whole set to between Billy and Riki was just fatigue.

Yep. Brain-fart, excitement, it was probably better to go out the back, but it wasn't a terrible place to lose possession with the score as it was. I was kinda hoping Riki had kneed NAS in the head jumping to collect his dropped ball, but no joy.

Gotta say it was a bit disappointing the only players that walked around the stadium interacting with the fans after full time was Patty and Walsh.

Some went into the sheds, some stayed on the field talking with the other Storm players, some walked around but they weren't walking along the sidelines.

Reynolds was at the channel 9 desk and when that finished up he raced over to start a lap around.

I thought there was a group at the Milton end as well, but can't remember

Kevvie is doing a great job of keeping a lid on the performance and result.
I was watching an old final against the Knights back in the day when we flogged them royally. He was injured and the sideline commentator asks a question about Brisbane and Kev firstly talks about how the Knights are a quality team and the Johns boys are crafty players who can burn you, then he goes on to point out what the Broncos haven't done right yet. Kev has never changed, he knows what winning looks like and what needs to be done to get that bit extra you while also respecting his opposition.

I reckon the Storm last night were so focused on having a game plan to stop Walsh ( and he wasnt as involved or effective as usual ) they forgot we arent a one man team.

That game last night was won on physicality more than our skillset. That first half was as physical as anything i have seen in recent years at NRL level. I've never seen Payno gassed after 30 mins, but him and Carrigan both were. Tbf, the Storm matched it with us physically in that first half, but early in the second you could see their intensity levels dropped.

I knew we were winning that game anyway. I dont think i have ever mentioned it, but i said we were winning it by 26.
Would be interesting to rewatch the game to try and analyse it a bit more without the anxiety of watching live.

On first watch we played far more up the middle than usual. Patty played his origin style of running more than passing. I’m wondering if the thought of Walsh lurking out wide prevented Storm from their usual condensed defensive structure which limited their ability to gang tackle Haas and Patty.

Munster has played against the Broncos 16 times since 2015 and won 13- I think that's a fair contribution.

Grant is only five games.
Shane perry won the 2006 gf as a halfback... does that make him THE REASON we won? I never said he didn't contribute, i said they arent the reason for them. He's not the reason for 90% of those losses, probably more. Or are you suggesting the run would have happened if storm didn't have smith and slater?

He is great at punching it back behind the ruck, such a vital piece of the cog and a guy I want to see be here for his career. One of those guys that even when we looked bad always seemed to turn up.
David Stagg kind of guy.
