POST GAME [Finals Week 1, 2023] Broncos vs Storm

I think Kayo is upset that we made fools of all of their "experts" ... it won't let me re-watch the game. I keep getting a network error. it will let me watch the other games though
They've dropped the British football this year so after next weekend (I'll keep watching replays of Friday night) I'll be dropping Kayo for another year.
I have to say their commentary team is so biased against the Broncos. Even Sampson used to be a die-hard bronco, the producers have turned her and they're cutting off their nose to spite their face as we are one of, if not the biggest supporter base.

When will they learn?

There were a few key moments in this game and they all involved the storms most influential players. Ranked in order of importance

1. Reyno drop kicking the ball over munsters head finding touch making him look like an incompetent junior.

2. Stags discarding Munster and meaney to cross for a try.

3. Walsh draging Munster over the tryline.

4. Arthars hit on meaney

5. Carrigan roughing up grant in the first exchange of the game.

Flegler's bell ringer on Warbrick coming off his line was a "don't mess with us" statement. And it was so well deserved.

And it was so well deserved.
Such a good hit. Hughes was carrying on, kept pretending to play the ball to try and catch us offside. When he finally played it, Flegler taught them why you don't play silly games against us.

After every key moment you’ll notice a storm player throwing their arms up in the background hoping the ref would give them mercy.

That fake play the ball shit pisses me off, this isn’t the NFL team trying to get a false start.

One of the biggest things that has pissed me off over the years about the storm (and there are many) is if you are so good like you keep telling everyone why can’t you just bear people by playing to the rules rather than trick shit and judo crap.

Three of our four tries were scored through Munster. Either he was more injured than the storm were letting on, or a wily old 5/8 at the Broncos 😜was able to spot a weakness in his play and exploit it to the max.

I'm thinking you've got to do it position vs position rather than picking a best 17 across them all... which means you can only have 2 of Webcke, Civo and Haas as starting props... one of Tunza, Parker (when he was offloading god mode) or Patty, etc.

The GF team lists from those years are below... I have looked to have wingers, centers and back row based on side of the field they played

1 Hodges/ Boyd/ Walsh
2 Boyd/ Oates/ Arthars
3 Stagg/ Reed/ Herbie
4 Tate/ Hodges/ Staggs
5 KHunt/ Kahu/ Cobbo
6 Lockyer/ Milford/ Mam
7 Perry/ Hunt/ Reynolds
8 Webcke/ Thaiday/ Flegler
9 Berrigan/ McCullough/ Billy
10 Civoniceva/ Blair/ Haas
11 Thorn/ Glenn/ Capewell
12 Thaiday/ Gillett/ Riki
13 Carroll/ Parker/ Carrigan

14 Casey McGuire/ Nikorima/ Smoothy
15 Parker/ Wallace/ Piakura
16 Carlaw/ Dodds/ Kobe
17 Hannant/ Ofahengaue/ Jensen

My quick first stab at it:

1 Walsh 23 (it's neck and neck with Hodgo 06 though... and even Boyd '15 who was elite at that point... toss of a coin for all of them really)
2 Oates 15
3 Herbie 23
4 Hodges 15
5 Cobbo 23
6 Lockyer 06
7 Hunt 15 (better pairing with God)
8 Civoniceva 06
9 Berrigan 06
10 Haas 23
11 Thorn 06
12 Gillett 15
13 Carrigan 23

14 Nikorima 15
15 Parker 06
16 Kobe 23
17 Ofahengaue 15 (might have the year wrong on this one, but Offa formed a formidable bench rotation middle circa '15/'16)

Could Tunza , Hodgo and few of the OGs keep up fitness wise with the current group ? I highly doubt it .
I acknowledge they were greats of their era . Players are bigger , fitter and more athletic [particularly big guys ] than they were 17 years ago .
The way the current crop wear out their opposition and come home over the top of them reminds me of Kelvin Giles 90s era Broncos .

Yeah , Munster has been a shadow of himself since Origin 1 .
Done sweet FA from what I have seen of him . Doesn`t have the acceleration we are used to . Where he dummies and shoves some one off and splits the line . Hasn`t happened as much recently when I have watched him .

I don't feel sorry for people who tipped the storm we were so good. The Storm were dropping like flies as some said it behind in the stadium they should go home meaning the storm because they were tired

I just couldn't understand the overwhelming Storm tipping. Sure, a 50/50 split I could get behind but the Fox panel is just one example, one person tipped us lol

Toowoomba only brought the broncos once that was a trial match against the Titans pretty obvious who won
If memory serves, I'm pretty sure they came in the 90s to play against the clydesdales during the pre-season.

I was confident from the get go, the Storm have been a class below the Broncs and Panthers all year and I was expecting a bit of a flogging. The only teams that worry me slightly are the Knights and the Panthers but I honestly believe we are the best team in the comp this year. I have not gone into games expecting to win since 2000, it is an exciting time to be a Broncs fan.

Broncos played Storm in Toowoomba in 2006 for a trial game.

Melbourne Storm 58
(B Slater 2, G Inglis 2, S Hill 2, M Geyer, J Webster, C Cronk, D Kidwell, C Smith tries; G Inglis 4, C Smith 3 goals)

Brisbane Broncos 10
(S Minto, D Kemp tries; M Ennis goal)

Ennis *shudder*. Sadly I went to that trial.....but going to the Grand Final made up for it.

Broncos played a trial against the Raiders in Toowoomba in 2005. Hodges played fullback. I'm pretty sure they played trials up there a few years in a row.
