Finals Week 1

Melbourne just so good at getting their big men into good positions on the opposition try line.

It's probably what they do better than any other club.

Did it last year with Tino, do it all the time with NAS, somehow get Finucane over the try line from DH pass, BSmith or Grant setting up or scoring tries just about every game.

If there is a stat for try assists and tries from DH I reckon theyd be miles ahead and not just this year, but for many years now

It's an absolute blight on our hooking rotation that for the last 5 odd years we've barely been able to get guys like TPJ and Haas into similar positions.

We've now got others like Riki and TC who run great lines that we should be able to line up on defenders 1v1 on the goal line for easy tries

Yeah, its probably these 2 then Api? then maybe Cook I guess. I know Api has been out recently but he was going well.

I’ve been waiting along time for the Demons to get back to power. It softens Brisbane’s performance this year.

Not sure if it stood out on tv but live at the game Melbournes line speed, especially defending their line is just ridiculous.

Sweep plays, cut out balls, block plays, it doesnt' matter what you throw at them it's all nullified because by the time the second receiver has the ball they have zero options because he has someone in his face.

When we defend we take a few steps off our line, realise we haven't numbered up and then turn our shoulders out, back up and chase. Melbourne don't even need to slide because their defence puts so much pressure on the attacking team that is ruins their lines and timing.

Apart from that i dont know how it happens but storm seem to be able to play the ball while Manlys defence is still retreating. Alternately Manly are still trying to play the ball while the storm defence is set and having a breather, allowing them to then sprint up off the line next tackle. I'm not suggesting they're cheating but If i get a spare 3 hours I'd love to assess fram by frame what they do in the ruck to allow them to be so supperior.

Just saw the last part of your post, the secret is finding your front with the ball (allows you to get up straight away and play it whilst the defence is retresting). Ball runners will basically make contact and then surrender on their front to quickly get up for a play the ball... think burpees.

The opposite is true for defence. Get the ball carrier on their back, byway of the wrestle, and it will take them forever to get up to play it in comparison

The point is about the salary cap and supposedly evening out the playing talent, not really working if the best clubs in the comp can sign whoever they want for whatever they want is it.

Anyway, let's see what Smith stays at the Storm for, my guess is about what Paps is on and everyone will praise them for it and cry foul about us having Haas on 750k
