The scoreline is a really fair reflection of the contest. Very even game, but the Roosters with their noses just out infront.

Both teams have been guilty of making dumb errors, but I get the feeling that the Roosters are easier to fix. Melbourne cannot bring Cooper Cronk into the game at the moment and it's forcing Smith to dummy and go left. If they're going to win, they may need to mix things up and bring Will Chambers in-field and catch the Roosters off-guard. As demonstrated by that Jackson Hastings read of Smith's grubber, they've done their homework on Melbourne and throwing something a little different to get momentum and some second phase is really your only option.

Speaking of Hastings, how much are the Roosters paying him? Whatever it is, it isn't enough.

It would be one thing if he came through their Harold Matthews and SG Ball side. However, they poached him from the Dragons when they were struggling to hold onto him, Hutchinson and Bird.

I'm not as sceptical of the Roosters salary cap as others, but it's signings like his that make me scratch my head, especially over the 2014 squad.

Some of the forward passes Sydney have been getting away with tonight would make the Bulldogs blush.

No Koroibete, no Storm.

So it's okay to tackle the support player without the ball and then get in the way of the pass when you're 10m off-side?
