First Test- Australia v South Africa

Nevill and Mitch Marsh will be under huge pressure. Lyon should be as well based on his Sub Continent returns, especially with the upcoming Indian series, but he's seemingly undroppable (RIP our chances in India). Voges isn't getting younger, but he's still batting well enough to keep blokes like Patterson, Cartwright, Handscombe, Renshaw, Lehmann jr, etc developing in FC (which is where Mitch should be if he isn't up to test cricket).

Siddle isn't a bad pick for pitches that offer some life (like England)/ the Sub Continent where we need his type of holding bowler who can make the most out of variable bounce, but I don't think he's good enough for Aus in his current state. I'd love to see Sayers or Beherrendorf get a go.

I'm not against Siddle but wish one of Pattinson or Cummins was fit and firing. Imagine going into Perth on an old-fashioned wicket with Starc, Hazelwood, Pattinson and Cummins!! One day maybe but just seems so unlikely unfortunately.

The SAffers would shit themselves if we went with that pace attack.
Smith would be fined and suspended every third game though for slow over rates with those bowlers. Maybe we could do a rotational captaincy :laugh:

Lyon got 16 wickets at 31 in Sri Lanka- third most for the series in a 3-0 pumping. What more would you want from your spinner?

@1910

Do you think Nevill could be under pressure to keep his spot? His keeping is top notch but he never has scored to much with the bat at test level, only averages 20 and these days keepers are expected to be batsmen as well.

Is Nevill under pressure?

You can only be under pressure if someone beneath you is applying it. Clearly 51 runs from 3 Tests isn't great form. Having said that his keeping in Sri Lanka was good.

That's the issue; we have to keep going back to Siddle because no one stands up and demands selection in the Shield and no one is ever fit.

Siddle has been brought back since the Oval Test and has 16 wickets from the five Tests at 23.

He's a good foil for the more erratic Hazelwood and Star- 2.93 per over is pretty tight.

What are the odds on Shaun Marsh getting a pair? I'd double it up in a Multi with his brother achieving the same result...actually come to think of it there might not be too much value in that bet.
