MOTORSPORTS Formula 1

Thats i think 3 times now he has taken the 'risk' strategy from a position of weakness against Oscar and won the race. Brutal if he ends up winning the title.

McLaren copping it on Instagram for favouritism. I hope Piastri wins this year out of sheer guts and talent and leaves this team. He’s a number one driver all day every day they treat him like the number 2.

Piastri wins by 10s if one stop what a joke, how does your engineer **** it that hard?

I will say, I just dont think 1 stop should be possible on a circuit like Hungary. Theres not enough overtake opportunity. Tyres again probably too good to make it possible.

That’s a 14 point swing, Oscar I reckon will tear shreds of his engineer. This is the kind of result that can totally blow up your trust in your team. Huge momentum gainer for Norris too heading into the break. That is the worst possible result other than a DNF for Piastri.

Man that leaves a bad taste in the mouth. Three races Norris has benefitted by being the worse driver but given the better strategy. It was clear to all and sundry this was a one stop race with lower track temperatures.

Haven't watched it and I don't think I will. I struggle enough with how the commentators talk about Hamilton and Lando, don't need to hear them blowing a load all over the comm box. I caught the start on the replay before leaving for work and Lando had dropped back to 4th or 5th at that stage? Figured that it would be between Leclerc and Piastri at that point...was not expecting to hear that Norris had won.

The general consensus appears to be McLaren gave Lando that strategy because of his shit start, to get him back up into a podium position. Why though? Constructors championship is pretty well wrapped up I believe, so what possible reason could there be to **** Oscar over yet again? Other than looking to give Norris a shot at winning the championship. It's ****ed.

Yep absolutely pathetic with massive championship ramifications. Oscar is only 9 points ahead now when he should be 23, basically a full race.

You know what makes it even worse. Oscar asked if one stop would work and McLaren told him no effectively. Their management should hang their heads in shame.

On reflection, it's annoying from an Oscar standpoint, but from a McLaren standpoint it makes perfect sense, and Zak Brown said exactly that post race.

Lando had a bad start, so they had to shift to trying a strategy/risking a strategy they hadn't even considered possible (1 stop) and it ended up being the optimal strategy. Even Lawson beat Max due to 1 stop strategy.

1 stop is currently working well this season, and it just so happens that Lando has reaped the benefits because in the 3 races its worked, he has either been out qualified by Oscar, or had a shit start, so he gets the 'gamble' strategy to give him a chance.

He's definitely riding his luck a bit.

He might 'ride his luck to the title, just seems to be really unfair that he is benefitting from being poor at key moments. Like you said, the tyres have stood up better than expected, significantly so, all year. Piastri clearly wanted to stay out, he told them focus on Lando, not Leclerc and they didn't listen to him.

I think Pirelli has got a lot of work to do in regards to compounds for 26 season. Mediums going 40+ around Hungary is far too much. Thats over half race distance without a SC.

I know they did a lot of work this season too, where some races hards are another races mediums etc, but it feels like its been wrong a lot. Mediums lasting forever and softs being shredded after a few laps..

Might be alone, but I just dont like an uninterupted 70 lapper thats not got many overtake spots, being able to be 1 stopped. It just takes away too much of the excitement.

For sure. It was really boring other than the frustrations around Norris and Piastri.

What's doing with Hamilton? I've only seen a snippet of the interview where he calls himself useless. I can't work out whether it's a case of him genuinely cracking the sads and having doubts about himself or is it him and the team not getting along? He said something like "I'm useless, obviously. I just can't drive anymore apparently" the implication maybe being he's asking them to do something and they're not so he cops the blame.

I have two mates that I talk to about F1 and one of them thinks Lewis is the devil incarnate and the other would justify Lewis clubbing a baby seal. Not very measured opinions.

Interesting mates. What are their views on Christian Horner?

I was exaggerating, but their opinions can't really be trusted when it comes to Hamilton. Can't remember the reaction to all of the Horner stuff tbh, it was more rounds of laughter at the seeming fall of Red Bull.

I like Hamilton. Whole reason i even got into the sport, Danny Ric helped me stay but it was Hamilton who got me there.

I just think he was unable to turn down an opportunity to race for Ferrari, and everything coming out before he got there was about how they were going to have the car to get him #8, that Merc weren't able to get him. So after tough years at Merc (by his and their standards) he has gone to Ferrari who are not only well off the pace, but seem to be run like a clown show.

He should have known this, so thats on him. Leclerc and Sainz had regular blows ups with engineers etc. I think he probably regrets his decision plenty, and doesnt realise how much he was going to miss his previous team of Toto and Bono.

I just think its a smashing of confidence and now realisation he doesn't know if he is going to be able to get to a spot he competes for a WDC again.

Yeah, I mean Ferrari have been a bit of a meme the last few years right? Crazy strats etc.

Huge meme. They did at times though have the only car last couple seasons that even looked close to Max (on some circuits). So there was a lot of hope for this year.

Its insane to me they've just extended Vasseur. He's taken them backwards.

Love the choices tbh.
