She was already ranked 7th in the world at the start of the French. I expect she should move up a little in the rankings after knocking off Williams and Jankovic in consecutive matches

They said in the telecast that the winner would move to 6th, loser to 7th. Stosur wouldn't get many points because she made the semi last year.

I thought that part of the ranking points were also based on the rankings of players you beat, as well as "defending" points you won in that tournament last year - ie you get more points for beating players in the top 5 / top 10. I know for a fact she was already 7th going into the French, so basically she gets nothing in terms of ranking for making the Grand Final and Williams will still stay #1 despite losing in the quaters - seems kind of shitty to me.

Absolutely FB, but its funny how the mind works isn't it. Against the higher ranked players she played her best tennis because she had nothing to lose but she didn't handle the weight of expectation well at all.
Sam became tentative on serve then she got over aggressive on other points, she was beaten in the head.
