What does everybody think of a full round at Suncorp?
I know this is done in the ESL with some success but I wonder what state the pitch would be in by the end of the weekend if its raining. I also thought they were trying to cut the number of rounds and not add to them.

I think they'd definitely have to do something like bulk games and ticket pricing. I'd never pay to go and see more than 1 game at the price they charge.

I have been posting about this at LU this morning. Great idea, but they're REALLY need to make it four double headers in a row and use some smart scheduling to ensure it's a success. My idea:

FRIDAY NIGHT DOUBLE HEADER:

Game 1 - Melbourne -v- Canberra.
Game 2 - Broncos -v- Warriors

SATURDAY NIGHT DOUBLE HEADER:

Game 1 - Bulldogs -v- Cowboys
Game 2 - Sharks -v- Dragons

SUNDAY ARVO DOUBLE HEADER:

Game 1 - Parra -v- Manly
Game 2 - Souths -v- Roosters (both games would attract HEAPS of Sydney-based day trippers)

MONDAY NIGHT DOUBLE HEADER:

Game 1 - Penrith -v- Tigers
Game 2 - Titans -v- Knights

Add to that package tickets, including a Saturday-Sunday one for Sydneyites, and a four-day pass for people who want to take it in.

Qld Govt and tourism bodies would get RIGHT behind it. Rope off Caxton Street from Friday night & have live bands, make it into a big street party.

IMO it'd be a great celebration of the game - NRL's version of Woodstock!!

I love that the NSW teams want to come up to QLD to make money. It would obviously make more sense to have this round down in Sydney. But we'd still prob sell more tickets up here!

Another reason why QLD > NSW.

It is a good idea, but I would rather a three or four day World Sevens. That way we see all the teams playing each other. Also mini derbies aganist the Cowboys and Titans.

I'd like to see it this way.

I reckon you'd be better off having the 3 QLD teams on different days in different games - morelikely to get a bigger crowd...no one would turn up to the Mondy night either. Yuck Souths v Knights...

I don't understand the theory of this idea.

I like the idea of 4 games, involving the 4 QLD teams, but I reckon the games minus Broncs, Cows, Tits and storm wouldn't pull much crowd.

If anything, the NRL should pump BIG coin into this idea and take this week to NZ or Melbourne...or god forbid....Perth!!!!

Why not hold half at Suncorp, and half at ANZ and then offer package deals for tickets for people who come to more than one.

great idea, as long as us sydney broncs fans dont miss out on more away games.

I'm with Hammo, I can't see it working at all. Queensland teams would obviously pull a crowd, but no more than they would in a regular round. Brisbane supports rugby league more than any other city in Australia, but IMO there still aren't enough fanatical rugby league fans up there who would go to more than 1 or 2 games.

I can't see many people from Sydney heading up either. We get so many games down here every weekend, and 80% of them struggle to pull a decent crowd.

I like that they're coming up with new and different ideas, I just don't think this is the right one. If they decide to go ahead with it they'll have to do some seriously good marketing to sell it, and we all know how well the NRL go with marketing

I think the idea is to have one ticket for all 8 games, or someting in that sorta of range, can you imagine how much the QLD Government will benefit from this? Having huge crowds at the same place for 4 days? The idea is to get more sponsor and government money out of it then high ticket prices.

I too, applaud the fact that new ideas are being raised, however, in League crazy SEQLD, what does this acheive in the long run for NRL's popularity in QLD?

Surely, Melbourne or NZ (North) would reap more, in terms of potentially increasing the fan base???

It's not a bad idea but not sure how the turf would hold up either. 4 games, maybe, but 8??? It'd be a goat track after that!!

In addition to ideas like this I would love to see the comp reduced to 22 rounds or so and a midweek knockout comp introduced with our 16 teams plus the best 16 teams from QLD and NSW local comps. They used to do a knockout comp years ago and it gives all the teams a chance to play sudden death football during the year they could televise the matches and give the winner decent prize money so the sides put out decent sides although like the FA Cup it would also be a great way for clubs to blood youngsters into first grade. Would also be a great chance to give smaller boutique venues and footy fan-bases a chance to see quality first grade instead of just trials.

Teams need to start playing matches in different places first. The Warriors should have a few home games in different locations around NZ throughout the season, and Aus based teams should play a couple of games a year around the country too. Places like Cairns, Darwin, Adelaide, Perth and even Hobart.

It'd be nothing for really increasing league's profile - that could come after a couple of years of it being successful in Brisbane. Plenty of clubs are in financial strife, though, and this could surely be a big windfall for them. Along with tourism etc - the government and tourism board would be champing at the bit if it was passed.

I'd love to see it become a huge success and a regular event for 2-3 years. After getting plenty of media coverage etc., it could then be taken to Melbourne!
