The Canberra Raiders have sent video footage to NRL referees boss Bill Harrigan, claiming the Melbourne Storm are using a new controversial tackling technique focused on grappling the head and neck of players.
Reacting to complaints from his players about alleged attacks on their necks during Saturday's match against the Storm, Canberra coach David Furner has identified six incidents which he has sent on to the NRL for advice.
Raiders captain Terry Campese made on-field complaints to the referees about the alleged holds during the 24-19 loss to the Storm.

''My concern is the players and its got to do with the head and the chin,'' Furner said.
''They're pulling the chin across with their hands. I could see they were slowing us down by using this technique.''
The Canberra Times has since learned that there is a similar grappling hold known as the chinstrap, which is intended to immobilise victims by forcing their head to one side.

it seams that the Storm are at it again :shake:

as the great Dane Carlaw once said " I hate those Melbourne Players"

I didn't actually see the match, but if what Furner is saying is true, then it continues a pattern of dirty tactics by the Storm since Bellamy got down there. and the more they act like that, the more i'm happy Bellamy is not associated with the Broncos.

Couldn't agree more mate!

wow, Storm trying to bend the rules? That like never happens.

The sad thing is, no doubt someone will come out and say they're being innovative or some crap and it's the NRL's problem for not having rules in place already to prevent this kind of thing.

It'll probably be Matty Johns, he is always dry humping the Storm.

The NRL honestly needs to stamp down on these tackles.

Hit the culprits heavy - 6 weeks for a grapple and it will all go away.

12 if it's a Cam Smith special.

I agree, can imagine the Bellamy whinge if it happens as well.

Couldn't they put all those tackles under attacking the head of an opposing player or second tackle? What difference is there in intent from grabbing the foot or leg, it's all about slowing the play the ball after the tackle has been made.

One week in? That's pretty bad, the dirty tactic for next year will need to be more subtle.

I'm sick of this. It just makes the entire team, especially Bellamy, come across as extremely arrogant. They really have shown in recent years that that will do absolutely anything to gain an unfair advantage.

Can't wait to see AP to tell us how dirty tactics are alright because the rule book doesn't specifically say they aren't allowed.

If it's true then I'm sick of the Storm BS.
I hope the club starts copping fines as well as lengthy suspensions.

Ever since bellamy has been down there Melbourne have used rough tactics. Is this a surprise

I find it hard to believe Bellamy coaches the Storm to make these kinds of tackles but each year another type of tackle is invented by Storm players.

My issue isn't necessarily with their technique, it's not really that dirty or anything IMO. (You Queenslander's are soft, you think EVERYTHING is dirty...)

let us know how you feel when Smith is doing this during Origin ;)

Did you guys see Furner's whinge to Fox?

He's lost the plot IMO.
