[quote="Bucking Beads":3btwhix3]I am not sure what makes guys like Bolton and Lowe more suitable for Origin than guys like Parker and Stagg

They havent had a shot. Parker and stagg both have

1 game isn't really a shot if you look at the state of the NSW team..[/quote:3btwhix3]

Stagg is purely a tackling machine, and while we have myles and harrison in the team, there is no need for stagg, i think we can all agree on that. Parker on the other hand has played 3 games, and just looked out of his depth imo.

Bolton and lowe are unproven obviously, but bolton has a lot to his game. He makes a lot of tackles, runs great lines and has a handy offload. Scored a few tries this year too. Lowe might be stuck in the same boat stagg is tho, tackling machine, altho he does offer a bit more in attack than stagg

But Parker is a completely different player now, he can't be judged by his origin form in 04-05 which is 5+ years ago now.

He deserves another shot if an opportunity comes.

There is no room in the side for either player but Stagg is not really any different to a bloke called Dallas Johnson. Also I fail to see how Bolton is that much of a better player than Parker. Also Parker was used in origin off the bench and had minimal time on the field. He was also developing as a player. I think parker is much closer to Origin than Stagg though.

One big difference is that DJ was capable of hitting pretty damn hard. No doubting Stagg's work ethic, but I can't really recall ever seeing him hurt someone with his defence.

the difference between Stagg and Johnson was that Johnson could tackle a man one-on-one and be effective 99% of the time. stagg gets most of his tackles in 2-3 man tackles, either by holding someone until others come in or by being the second/third man in.

and stagg couldnt hurt a butterfly with his tackling, johnson could do some damage.

Yep Fair call, Dallas hit harder in defence.

I won't argue with you, I know you have an agenda against Stagg.

i dont have an agenda against stagg, i just see him for what he is - a workhorse. thats it. he has very little in attack and no venom in defence. he makes lots of tackles though, thats the only reason why he gets picked for his team. its like Daryl halligan - if he couldnt kick goals he would have been playing reserve grade for his entire career. if stagg couldnt make 30-40 tackles a game, he wouldnt be in the top grade.

LOL WTF?? If Slater was slow he wouldn't be in the top grade!!

Pretty sure Stagg has topped the NRL's one-on-one tackle count for at least a couple of seasons since he was a week to week first grader.

he does boost his tackle numbers by flops tho, much like hindmarsh and fitzgibbon. no having a go at him, but tackle stats for some ppl look much better than they really are

Not doubting that at all, but his one-on-one tackle count for quite a number of seasons was among the best in the comp. Not sure what it is like this year but I imagine it would be right up there again.

Is that an order or did you just list the possible backrowers?

AP hit the nail on the head.

Stagg could make all kinds of tackles except for big hits which would only come once in a blue moon. What he does have over DJ is a superior ball playing ability. Unfortunately, I'd have Stagg behind a fair few players.

It's a shame it's taken Parker so long to fine this form, if he had of been playing like this in 2008 he'd be there right now. Unfortunately, he was injured and Harrison got his spot and the incumbency...and has done a mighty fine job for Queensland. Just a shame for Parker who's really stepped up as a player since 2005.

Bolton and Parker are different players. Parker relies on a fend, Bolton basically charges like Ben Creagh should into gaps.

Yeah I think Lowe has jumped right up the queue of the tackling locks.
