POST GAME Game I Discussion

I thought one of the biggest glaring differences last night was the lack of second phase play by us, we took Parker's elite off-loading for granted at state level, he was monumental for our attack.

McGuire, Napa, Myles, Lillyman, Gillett all failed to make a single off-load last night, that's unacceptable. In comparison, Woods & Fifita made 5 between them, all instrumental in getting them on the front foot, often leading directly to a try. If there's one thing we need to work on big time leading up to next game, it's that, second phase play is arguably the most important aspect of attack in Origin.

As much as this hurts to say, the blues played a bloody great game of footy. We were outplayed all across the park and especially up the middle. I think it is time for Myles and Thaiday to step aside, just don't seem to have that impact anymore.

Hats of to Fafita and Tedesco, brilliant game by both. We just had no answer to Fafitas strong running and offloads.

To the Qlders, I thought Papali was very strong with his tackling and made some great meters along with McGuire. Oates stood up and played his usual safe and strong game, apart from that really not much else stood out for me.

Anyway, onto game 2 and time to really knuckle down and work that siege mentality and underdogs tag that we always use. Down there this is going to be a massive ask!

Anyone else see Fifita tap himself on the head towards a trainer after he copped a bit of contact to the head? You can't tell me teams/players (not just in origin, but NRL too) aren't rorting the HIA rules.

I don't want to be one of "the sky is falling" type of people, but I predict a bleak few years for QLD. This NSW team is good and will be together for a few years to come, and QLD are going to have to go through a rebuilding phase during that time. I can see NSW winning the next 3-4 series. NSW talked it up after their 2014 series win, but I still thought QLD had it in them back then. Now I'm not so sure. The last decade has been a great time to be a QLD support, but it had to come to an end at some stage and I feel that time is now.

Spot on.

Just have to have the spine combinations that work, and work week in and week out at club level first: Slater, Cronk, JT (can't leave him out) and Smith. Also, Origin needs an X factor. We had none. Slater is one, and JT.

Gagai is just excellent and has to be in the centres with Boyd and Holmes and Oates on the wings.

Our forwards are just too small and brittle. Napa was ok but Myles, Li;llyman and Thaiday have had their day. Need Hess and Wallace at a minimum. Our prop stocks are really low but disciplined and effective defence, lacking a lot last night can make up a lot for that.

This series is winnable if the ded wood is shifted.

It would also be good to see the NSW refs pull up some head high shots as well.

If we are holding all our luck on a rookie forward with less than 20 games to his name in NRL Coen Hess then we are in massive trouble. The kid isn't anywhere near ready.

You got to give credit when credit is due. NSW played a damn near perfect game. Dominant in pretty much every way.

I thought Miford played very well as did Oates. I will echo what others stated before, there comes a time where loyalty isn't enough to go on alone. O'neil, Miles, Lilyman in particular need to call it a day for Qld. Hell two of them don't even start at club level. What chance do they have in dominating the likes of Fafita, Klemmer and Woods? Zip.

Nsw good
Oneill and gillett terrible

Milf played well for about 5mins then did nothing. I dont think you can get away with only one ball playing half in origin, thats why i think hes better off the bench where his running game can be utilised to its full effect.

Forwards monstered, bench didnt offer anything

We're up against it.

Sometimes you just have to bite the bullet... the players he will replace are past it.. better to bring him in too early than too late.. said this elsewhere but in 2001 after the 2000 debacle 7 forwards debuted in game 1 and we smashed them. Kevvie was way too conservative and now instead of blooding players at a home game they will now have to debut in Sydney with the series on the line. And if people think Slater is the solution think you'll be disappointed... he doesn't have the zip he once had.. his last couple of origin series were very average... stop watching clips from ten years ago because that Slater is gone. If Kevvie back peddles on the only tough decision he's made so far I think it will reinforce that he's not the origin coach Queensland needs for a rebuild. **** off O'neill and bring in Holmes, Gagai to centre. Wallace for Myles, Hess for Guerra. Probably stuck with Lillycrap, although maybe Sims if Kevvies got a really big set of kahunas. To be honest, its not like we have a great batch of forwards coming through... where are they all Queensland.

I thought that too but Mcguire got him pretty good with a late arm in the tackle. That's not to say he wasn't playing loose with the rules but he was hit in the head which gives an opportunity to do it.

Yeah, mcguire nailed him in the head. Fifita looked spaced af when he was coming off.

If we fix our ruck D then we should be right in the next game. They score 3 times turning back inside because of lazy forwards or bad reads, also a try off a dropped ball. We bombed 3 certain tries with dumb play.

Kick pressure was non existent too. They were hammering Cronk every time he got a kick away and we weren't repaying the favour. Its the 1%ers that win these games

Because who else is going to kick? That's the problem we have with milf. He isnt going to kick and if smith passes from dh, theres only one option. Easy to pressure.

Milford can kick and has shown in the past he can be a decent kicker. He should have taken a bit more responsibility last night. I didn't expect him to do the bulk of it but he could have helped out with some of it

And every time they offloaded, the receiver made 15m+ due to laziness in the defensive line also.
