PLAYER Gehamat Shibasaki

Shibasaki has been an absolute revelation.

Boy, was I sceptical when I saw him named to line-up in the first game of the season, and then even more so when his first involvement was a drop or missed tackle (I can't remember).

Since then though, he's come on leaps and bounds. He looked very threatening with the ball last night.

Massive credit to the bloke. He can actually pull off the moustache/goatee combo too - a lot of blokes look ****ing stupid with it, so that's also a huge plus.

Respect.

this is a perfect example of a player on a small contract that’s hungry to stay in first grade. Whereas when they give a young player a big pay day, the player stops trying.
This year:
Shiba>staggs
Karipani>cobbo
Gojewski>riki

It's been a terrible season results and overall performance-wise so far but I hope the examples above lead to the club as a whole realising:

1. Hard work beats talent
2. NO player is irreplaceable or more important than the team as a whole (that even includes haas) so we shouldn't be paying overs when moneyballing is the answer
3. We can nurture and get the best out of players

Hopefully the rise of Gem will prove to our R&R that you don't need to fill every spot in your 13 with overpaid "superstars" who may or may not deliver. You can find cheap solid first graders who do all the basics, never give up and rarely let you down. The money you save can then go towards balancing out your top 30, so that when we have a few injuries we don't completely implode.
