Late era Johnson was elite .Oh and Starc has gone past Lillee for test wickets for Aus. Interesting question...is he better than Johnson?
Early he was below Starc .

It was a bit of a nothing shot but it took one of the great catches to get him out. Lacked conviction but he guided it to the right area.***** sake Marnus
Looks like Marsh’s brief run of form may be over. There’s no way that he deserves a long run in the test side at his age and with his poor test record.
I’d drop Carey before Marsh
I’m not anywhere near replacing marsh yet. Nobody else is giving him the platform to play risky cricket. The risk of his batting style is just so much riskier when the runs aren’t on the board. Brought him back into his shell a little bit. Would say that he is by far the easiest to replace in terms of people performing in his position in shield though. Hardie, Webster (yuck but he is performing), Davies, JFM would all get introduced down at 6 if picked. You could even possibly get a Neser in at 7 and bat Carey at 6 but neither our batting or Carey have been good enough for that at the minute. Hardie is the only one I’d pick but that’s where batters are performing or bring a certain style that suits what we want from 6 more so than anywhere else.Who are you replacing him with though?

McSweeney and Clayton probably the only 2 in the country you’d pick in the 3 or 4 role in terms of technique and batting style that are remotely performing but I wouldn’t be anywhere near selecting them. If Green or Labuschagne were to get injured you’d be moving Smith and Khawaja down and picking Bancroft, Renshaw and Harris up top before selecting those 2 at this stage in their careers. You might find McSweeney could get a crack but until his double 50’s he’d looked to have regressed in form a bit.
That 6 role is quite unique in that you can include short form cricket results into the discussion whereas you can’t really elsewhere unless they have been particularly good at an international level with the back up of good red ball form in shield. But that isn’t happening at the minute
Moot point obviously with a while till the next game currently the only batters you could pick that aren’t openers is Hardie, Webster and maybe a McSweeney if he finished off the season well. I don’t think any of the top 6 are close to losing there spot I do think if Inglis plays well in FC cricket from now until then he will be the new keeper though. Averages might be similar to Carey at FC but he has played **** all Shield since that break out year to get the average up to something that people would deem stand out enough for Carey to get dropped. Think Carey is in a fair bit of strife personally. It is all a moot point anyway really as there is no test cricket after this game for AGES so everyone in the side will get at least the first and likely second test against India next series out but at present, Webster is basically the only one who is pickable. Of all the options, these are basically the concerns:
Pucovski - unpickable and likely have be made to retire due to concussions
Hardie - currently injured but likely next in line
Renshaw - is currently next drop but he is woefully out of form and recent batting due to carrying drinks
Bancroft - let's be honest, he isn't getting picked and does not have the record to make it even that strong a case to overlook the issues
Harris - is getting on in age now and just can't perform on any actual international quality pitch
Davies - yes you could risk it and he will almost certainly play tests for Aus but at what point do you put him there - is now too early?
Kellaway - too green and does not yet have the runs on the board
Chris Green - well look, the fact is, he is the only bloke not in the test team averaging over 50 in FC cricket...but he's a bowler and as such, can he be picked as a specialist 6? Unlikely
Manenti - see above but like Green is a bowler / bowling all rounder and while he scores regularly, like Green, they are always lower order runs
Wade - one of the rare ones who averages over 40 in FC but he is old and been given so many chances before, why would you go back to a guy who at best you might get 12 months out of with little cricket in said 12 months
Jewell - he is starting to bring it together but still so inconsistent, one to keep an eye on though
Clayton - looks really promising but like everyone, just does not have the record there to make a case
McSweeney - has Labs written all over him but also, just does not have the record or recent form to risk it
Inglis - the guy is class, you can see that, but he is earmarked to take over from Carey anyway, so not really a pure batting option
I think I've covered all the possible options and basically, no one is really available right now. 8 months down the track might well be different.
So basically, at the minute, the guys knocking loudly are Davies and Webster.
Yeah this is England at the SCG type stuffWow England and bazball, this innings is just reckless batting
