GI - surely the 1st player picked in a 17 today. If there was a draft pick and you got 1st pick surely he would HAVE to be the first player picked in the 17 today. His deficiencies of going MIA in games in the past has been greatly improved. The GI factor is a big one when he's in the opposition team. Glad he plays for QLD to be honest. Freak when he's in the clear with that big fend.

If he's not your first pick who would it be?

IMO Halves >= Hooker > Props as far as importance of the field goes, but I'd definitely consider going for Inglis as my first pick if I had a chance.

Everything Inglis did was created by Lockyer, Thurston etc. Good player, but he's a finisher and that's what he did today.

He isn't just a finisher Coxy, he has the ability to create breaks and tries for himself and others due to his size and speed.

Most things done by outside backs are created by halves. However I don't think there is too many that can finish, break tackles, break the line, fend, step or finish as good as GI.

He would def by my first target if I was building a team.

He's certainly the best outside back going around, so he'd definitely be on the list of prime targets. But I'd be after quality halves first. It showed at times when the Storm lacked a quality five-eighth that Inglis had trouble getting involved...hence why they moved him to five-eighth himself for a while.

He loves playing outside guys like Thurston and Lockyer who have crisp passing games and use their outside backs.

Sure, he'll create stuff at times when nothing's on, but he really excels when he has some quality playmakers with him.

Yeah the relationship he has built with Smith and Cronk and now to a lesser extent Finch is scary. All you have to do is feed him ball with an inch of room and those guys give him quality all the time. With Australia or QLD he is just spoilt between JT, Lockyer and Smith you have three of the modern games best distributors and it is no coincidence that Inglis is probably the most dominant big game player on the planet.

Which is why I believe if Lockyer retires after this tour, Cronk will partner JT in the halves for Qld and not Scotty Prince.

Yeah I am a huge fan of Cronk and reckon he would carve in the 7 with JT as his 6 in Origin.

Agreed. Given Queensland's dependency on the Storm backs (Slater, Inglis) and Prince's largely lacklustre 2009, I would think if Locky does stand down from rep footy next year it'll be 6. Thurston, 7. Cronk for both Queensland and Australia.

Coxy - I defs know where you're coming from. The whole he's the bullet you need a gun analogy but Gi could definitinely get you out of jail with one run out of nowhere if you are within 6 points. I'm just saying if you were picking a 17 against one opposition for $1m (hypothetically lol) and you had first pick in a draft system who would you go right now? Cause I'm thinking if you don't select Gi the opposition would...

Defs not saying he's a creater by any means... but the GI factor is mega...

(Cause I'm thinking you'd go GI, the opp would select Thursto/Locky and you would just select the other one...)

Id have to say id still go Locky. yeah G.I can create something out of anything. But Locky can put any player around him in the position to score. So while the team with G.I know that one bloke can get you a try. "My" team with Locky know that he can put anyone around him in for a try

Really? Though I guess you can take Hayne on your second pick...big call IMO.

G.I is a good player a hell of a player and a welcome addition in any team for sure. But id rather a player who can create for everyone around him then a player who 9/10 times needs a half to put him in the hole

very tough call, would have to go with one of: thurston, smith or GI......

a few years ago, locky first for sure....

I think Smiths best features on the field for QLD/Aus are Slater and Inglis

How good was the Big D's pass to GI in the game against England for that first try?

and that play also showed why Locky is god. he puts the pass thru and then sprints along side GI. doesnt just put the pass thru and hope it works
