Greatest Game Ever (with video)

Yeah I saw that when I watched the footage and thought the same thing, I would have beed gutted if it had have been disallowed after all the work Berrigan did.

Well if they'd picked it up it would've been called back immediately thus Berrigan wouldn't have landed on his head with a big Willie on top of him. [icon_lol1.

thats a classic example of why having the video referee not being allowed to rule on forward passes is stupid IMO.

that try went to the video ref, and blind freddy could see the pass was a country mile forward, but the video referee was powerless to do anything about it.

Nah it's the actual game footage Kris

LOL. I worded it weird.

Damn you, Scotty!

ROFL!

Isn't that when you sculled those jugs??

I was gonna go that night.... wish I did - was the most epic semi ever.

I cannot confirm nor deny this.

Pretty sure I need a copy of this game and the 2006 GF, stat!

Yet no mentioning of it during commentary. They were all jizzing about Hodgo's line break and the fact he had done the Dogs in a very similar fashion earlier in the regular season...

This is one of those games where you remember exactly where you were and what you were doing while watching it.

For me, I was on a plane down to Sydney with the family. I watched about 30 minutes of the first half at the airport while sipping on the best chocolate milkshake I've ever had (seriously, it makes me want to fly more) before boarding the plane with the Dogs well on top. Sitting down listening to ABC I remember the commentators were basically licking their lips at a Dogs v Dragons/Storm final and that the second half was purely academic.

At that point I was resigned to losing...we came far but 14 points down in a semi is basically a death sentence, one more try by them and it would all be over. All I wanted from the Broncos was an awesome try, something that would make even the most biased commentator take their hats off. I didn't think it was too much to ask.

And it wasn't.

The rest of the plane trip was awesome, the way the ABC commentary described the Hodges try allowed me to basically picture it as it happened in reality and with every try the Broncos scored, the more confident I grew about the result going the Broncos way.

After the game, I was certainly on a high but cautious about getting too confident in the lead up to the Grand Final. Either the Dragons or the Storm were going to be tough opposition, so I resisted the urge of getting my hopes up...

As for the Hodges pass, that camera angle looks really deceiving. Looks like he threw it backwards from the hands so BotD at least to the Broncos.

Yep. Think back to the 1999 Grand Final and a try by Paul Marquet or Ben Roarty (I think) for the Storm from what everyone was saying was a blatant forward pass.

Dragons were blowing up about it for 6 months from that date on. Then one night on the Footy Show they showed a Dragons guest the footage of that try from the overhead cam (attached to a blimp). It was DIRECTLY above the play...and the pass was clearly BACK. Not flat, BACK.

Shows how deceptive it can be from a high angle or even at ground level.

Yes the Hodges pass looks forward, but I'd be hesitant to be certain about it.

Shaun Berrigan's try. If you ever want to explain what a "turning point in a game" was to a person who doesn't know what it means, then all you need to do is show footage of that try.
i dunno, Berrigan and the Broncos would probably say that was the turning point of the game............so that clearly means it wasnt the turning point, apparently.

I'm not here to win a battle of wits, so you can give the trophee to AP right now. It will go well with the rest of his banners... [icon_lol1.

No Bronco is ever going to forget this one aye?

Surely the greatest game ever for the Bronco fan.

'That' Berro try was the catalyst but the highlight of the night was Locky's try... that was critical during the context of the game. True sign of a champion standing up to lead the team to victory... that and Tate's try. The only thing though was Parker missed the conversion to make it 8... I KNOW it didn't affect the game in the end... but to me that was almost an unforgivable mistake in the sport dictionary!

I missed that game live I think. Pretty sure I was in that shithole they call.... Auckland.

ahhh how good it is to see Lockyer when he still had a running game. great to watch, but also makes me sad that he doesnt really have it anymore.

I feel sorry for the younger fans who weren't able to see him in his true prime.

at his prime at fullback he was better than he was at his prime at 5/8th.
