This is a few things he said last night.

While clearly agog at the outcome, Broncos coach Anthony Griffin refused to blame the string of decisions for the heart-breaking defeat.

“That’s for you guys to talk about,” he said.

“I’m not sad. I’m not reliant on whether a call is right or wrong.

I am over his soft press conferences.

I want him to lose it & blast the shit out of the officials.

Manly & Dogs coaches have bitched about them & they seem to get the rub of the green now.

Would be great for him to walk into the press conference & put 10k on the table & let fly.
But no we get we played well :blah: & we go

Yeah but regardless of the refs we blew plenty of chances to win it anyway. The strip call was 50/50 unfortunately. I do think Hook is a bit soft on occasions but that is what you get.

Maybe Hook doesn't get paid enough to lose 10 Grand on a press conference outburst.

So you think we should be forced to compete with shitty decisions against us every week?

Griffin's just stoked to be anywhere near the NRL ... dude knows he's on borrowed time

I'd like to think that if the Broncos were ever dudded to the extent that the Cows were last week then Griffin would speak up, but I really don't have a problem with the coach focusing on the team's flaws when the ref's decision was 50/50 at worst.

I never said that.

Well despite the prevailing circumstances that the referees brought upon us, we were still expected to capitalize on everything else, yes. But having incompetent refs was what in the end actually cost us the game. Parker was in fact ten metres back from where the penalty should have been taken from and therefore was onside. Maybe we would have lost it after that but we can't read the future and nobody knows that we actually would have. Again, no club should have to compete with incompetent referees.

On top of that, why is it that we never get quick play the balls because we're laid on for ages, but when we lay down on them for a bit a penalty is always blown against us? This is the exact kind of thing Griffin needs to say at press conferences. We should win despite the refs decisions, yeah. But we should not have to.

Looking back, the strip call felt like 50/50, but it would probably be called a strip in any other non clutch situation.
The 2nd penalty, Parker was definitely offside.

Badger is a terrible ref though, and I'm pretty sure he's a Souffs fan too. But we threw the game away, and that's how the team needs to see it. Excuses won't help us improve our closing games out.

yeah look it's never ever been the broncos' way to whinge at pressers about dud decisions ... Right from Wayne Bennett through to now ... The thing we used to have however were feisty / proactive CEOs & administrators who used other more effective means of sticking it to the then NSWRL over dud decisions and general mistreatment

I believe the Souths player ran 10m before Parker touched him ... under the rules that puts Parker back on side.

on topic, who cares what Griffin says in press conferences anyway ... it is all just PR or BS.

besides name me one Broncos coach who has ever let rip at refs during a press conference? it may be a club instruction not to have a go at refs. and if that is the case Griffin certainly isn't successful enough ATM to disobey that instruction

Griffin did well at the presser. He didn't look happy. I loved the line 'we seem to be finding ridiculous ways to lose games.' He looked livid. I wonder if this is a turning point.

I'd love to think so and I agree he looked frustrated (and a little bit weary I thought) but given his track record I suggest he will be continuing his 'fix the problem from within' program ie: trying to cover all those '1 per centers' that are costing us game after game, dropped balls, silly penalties, missed tackles etc, without taking any significant action, ie: dropping someone or at least hooking someone publicly straight off the field during a game after a shocking effort.

He seems to want to fix things away from the spotlight, which would be fine if that's what he was actually doing. But he isn't...

I don't even know why the media even show up to these press conferences.

I think he is just ramming home the point that the players make mistakes which can be eliminated or shouldn't happen so we have control, the refs will always make mistakes but we can't control that. Why bitch about the things you can't change or control.

Also he wouldn't want his players taking that line because it's the easy way out to blame someone else and it becomes infectious in a side instead of looking in the mirror.

What better way to lead than to go in front of the cameras and accept the blame for your own shortcomings, or do we want Ricky Stuart style moaning.

There will come a time when he unloads on the refs and when he does the appropriate attention will be paid because he doesn't whinge for no reason.

It's always a lot easier to have a whinge and blame everyone and everything for a loss, especially when only minutes after you are hauled in front of a presser provoking you for a reaction, he's showing strength, not weakness.
