I think it's a no brainer. Whatever criticisms people have about the game plan, there's no denying he's a great motivator and has the players' attitudes right. That's what you need.

And the players love him - he's getting great results out of them and it's only going to get better.

ANTHONY Griffin has been awarded for the stellar start to his NRL coaching career with a contract extension from the NRMA Insurance Broncos.

The Broncos today announced that Griffin’s tenure had been extended for another two years to include the 2014 and 2015 seasons.

He had already been contracted until the end of next year.

“This provides our players, staff, members, supporters and sponsors with certainty about Anthony’s commitment to the club and our commitment to him,” said Broncos’ chief executive Paul White.

“As a club and a business, one of our key aims is to make sure we have the right people in the right job.

“Anthony has shown he is a very talented coach and man manager at the NRL level and we have been impressed with his contribution not only to the team as a coach, but to the club as a whole.

“One of his greatest qualities is his ability to distance himself from short-term decision making and put the long-term goals of the club at the forefront of his process.

“He has stood by those bold decisions and made them work, and in doing so he has provided a safe and stable environment for everyone here at the club.”

Griffin began his tenure at the Broncos as NYC coach in 2008, the first year of the under-20 competition, taking them to the grand final.

He made the preliminary final the next year with that squad before becoming assistant coach of the NRL team in 2010.

Griffin took over the NRL head-coaching role in February last year and led the Broncos to the preliminary final, losing to eventual premiers Manly. He has amassed a 31-13 win-loss record in that time.

Not quite the way my comment was meant to be taken. I'm just pointing out, extension or not, Brisbane will get rid of you whenever they want if it needs to be done.

meh it's important in the sense that Griffen would have been head-hunted by other clubs looking to shore up their head-coaching positions post-2013 if his contract was yet to be finalised here. The last thing we need is a potential bidding war for his services.

White, Gee & Co obviouslly recognise his value to the club and I'm glad they haven't wasted any time in offering him a new deal.

Excellent news ..... very glad to hear it.

I'm sure the players will be stoked too knowing the coach that has been with a lot of them for years now, will be there for a few more years to come :)

That hardly applies JUST to Brisbane.

I like Griffin .......it's good news for the club.
 
Great news and with a win percentage of 70% it's no wonder that he is getting an extension. He obviously ticks all the boxes on what a coach should have.

The purpose of a contract is not to bind someone to a deal rather it exists to ensure fair recompense if one or all parties fail to honour the contract. The only thing that makes a deal work is integrity. The contract just says out loud, we like you and you like us. Expecting a contract to bind someone to do something is like expecting a marriage to work simply because you exchanged vows.

Happy he's been re-signed and also happy it's not long term.

He's doing a great job at the moment. He ha shown that he does have some faults, like playing Gillett at 5/8th even though Henjak already made the same mistake before, but he's getting a lot out of a really young side.

Yeah not a fan of long term contracts, shorter term keeps them on their toes and more likely to perform.

Guys like Lockyer are an obvious exception but in 99% of cases I don't like them. Lol Zillman...

I've seen worse decisions when it comes to player selections then playing Gillett at 5/8th who at least has ball skills and had experience in lower grades playing there, I still shake my head when Tonie Carroll was selected there. His made some selections errors this season but his also shown right selections too in situations that require them and has shown that his not afraid to give youngsters a shot nor reward form like maintaining McGuire in the starting pack even with the SOO props back. His got some improving to do but that will come with time and gaining experience as a head coach in the NRL, all things considered he has done very well so far and I think given Lockyer's departure we could have faced a far worse season performance wise then we have now. Griffin's win percent rate is almost 20 percent better then Henjaks was and thats despite no Lockyer this season.
